Psychiatric Rater - NP/PA

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Psychiatric Rater with NP/PA credentials to join our multidisciplinary team. This role involves conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, evaluating patient mental health status, and providing critical data for clinical research and treatment planning. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in behavioral health, familiarity with EMR/EHR systems, and a strong understanding of medical documentation and patient care protocols. The position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic healthcare environment, supporting diverse patient populations including those in inpatient, outpatient, and specialized care settings such as memory care and hospice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments across various clinical settings, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and telehealth platforms.
  • Utilize clinical research methodologies to collect, analyze, and document psychiatric data accurately.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings.
  • Document patient interactions thoroughly using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist in triage and discharge planning processes for patients with complex psychiatric needs.
  • Participate in case management activities related to behavioral health, geriatrics, pediatric populations, and individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia.
  • Support acute pain management initiatives and monitor medication administration related to psychopharmacology treatments.
  • Maintain proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, diagnostic evaluation techniques, and relevant CPT coding practices.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advances in mental health assessment tools and telehealth practices.

Requirements

  • Valid licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with certification in psychiatry or behavioral health.
  • Demonstrated experience in psychiatric assessment within hospital medicine, emergency medicine, ICU/ICU experience, or Level I/II trauma centers is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; telehealth experience is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of medical documentation standards including ICD-10/ICD-9 coding and utilization review processes.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (pediatrics, neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory care, Alzheimer’s/dementia care), and individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges.
  • Ability to perform physical examinations related to mental health assessments; familiarity with procedures such as venipuncture or specimen collection is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective patient assessment and interdisciplinary collaboration.
