Qualification Requirements
All Temporary/Relief Psychiatrists must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- A minimum of twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years performing psychiatric services in a public or private healthcare facility. (Internship experience does not count toward the required experience.)
- Must possess and maintain a current and valid license to practice Psychiatry in the State of California.
- Must be proficient in the English language and able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Job Responsibilities
Under the clinical direction of the Chief Psychiatrist, Senior Psychiatrist, or Medical Director, the Psychiatrist provides professional psychiatric care, evaluation, consultation, and treatment to patients in an institutional or clinical setting. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, including assessment of criminal, psychiatric, and substance abuse history to determine patient needs and treatment recommendations.
- Perform mental status examinations (MSE) and suicide risk assessments following established protocols.
- Provide direct clinical care through crisis interventions, face-to-face evaluations, and follow-up appointments.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings to review and plan comprehensive treatment strategies.
- Document all patient encounters, progress notes, and care plans using SOAPE (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan, Education) format.
- Review and monitor patient progress, making necessary treatment adjustments.
- Prescribe and manage medications following established formularies and obtain approval for non-formulary requests when appropriate.
- Interpret laboratory results and coordinate with medical staff for additional care or referrals as needed.
- Provide clinical consultation to other healthcare professionals on complex or challenging cases.
- Maintain compliance with mandated reporting requirements, including but not limited to child/elder abuse and danger-to-self-or-others protocols.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and collaborate with families or caregivers when appropriate.
- Participate in on-call rotations as required for after-hours or weekend coverage.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and professional healthcare environment.
Requirements
- Active California Medical License
- Board Certification or Eligibility in Psychiatry
- Current DEA Registration
- Minimum of 1 year of recent psychiatric experience
- BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
