Psychiatrist - Corrections

We are seeking a dedicated, qualified part-time Psychiatrist to join our correctional healthcare team. This role is 4 hours per week on-site at our two correctional facilities in Bay Minette, AL, with mandatory telephone availability for consultations and mental health support as needed. As a Psychiatrist in the correctional facility, you will provide comprehensive mental health care to the inmate population, helping to ensure their well-being and uphold the highest standards of clinical care.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations and create treatment plans across intake, clinics, emergencies, and housing.
• Lead follow-up care; coordinate discharge planning and continuity of care.
• Provide phone consultations and mental health support per policies.
• Collaborate to optimize care coordination systems.
• Support staff education, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Mentor on-site staff; assist with emergency planning and drills.
• Maintain professional standards and regulatory/accreditation compliance.
• Coordinate with Health Services Administrator, Medical Director, and other professionals.
• Train users on systems for mental health coordination; communicate clearly with clients and team.

Requirements:

• Valid Alabama medical license with Psychiatry specialization. (M.D. or D.O.)
• Board certified, eligible, or qualified by the state laws/regulations to practice psychiatry.
• 3-5 years of experience in psychiatry
• Must possess a current DEA registration
• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and improvement.
• Proficiency in relevant technologies.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $150.00 - $200.00 per hour
