Overall Position Purpose: This is automotive equipment operation in the safe and prompt collection and delivery of library materials by cargo trucks; responsibility for the safe operation of automotive equipment in loading, collecting, delivering, and unloading library and other materials within the library system. Deliveries normally follow established routes within the County, but work may extend to collections and deliveries at other points, thus calling for a knowledge of locations and routes within the County and adjacent areas. Work extends to fueling and cleaning vehicles but neither to repairs nor the routines of preventive maintenance, although emergency repairs or adjustments may be required.
Provides assistance as requested during building and weather emergencies to return building to safe and accessible condition for public and staff. May assist with building and grounds maintenance as necessary in the absence of a custodian. Work is performed under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications: Experience in the operation and servicing of light and medium cargo trucks and educational training that results in knowledge of simple arithmetic and a reading and writing level necessary for successful job performance; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that has provided the knowledge, abilities and skills listed below.
Necessary Special Requirement: Possession of a valid non-commercial class C motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Maryland with proof of a good driving record.
