Public History & Digital Content Internship Summer 2026

POSITION SUMMARY:

We believe no story should be left untold. Come learn at TPT with the award-winning Minnesota Experience team, the creators of Lost Twin Cities and Jim Crow of the North, and other history in a unique internship experience at the intersection of public history, digital storytelling and marketing. This position is a temporary role that works approximately 20 hours per week in May through August 2026. The qualified candidates will have a passion for elements of our work including media storytelling, narratives, diverse history, and research. Compelling candidates will also have a desire to work in areas such as marketing/communications, public history, or public media.


Candidates must be currently enrolled in an educational program with a concentration on history, marketing, mass communications, digital storytelling, journalism, or other job-related fields. Please include a resume and cover letter with link to work samples (video, podcast, social media).


Hybrid Work Environment: Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities Metro area and report to onsite office a minimum of three days per week.


Compensation: $20 per hour


MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:


Production Support 50% of time

  • Provide archival research, including video archives, personal collections, online assets, library archives and others as needed
  • field production support including collecting releases during field interviews and media logging
  • Post production support including learning and supporting media management workflows

Digital/Social/Marketing Support 25% of time

  • Create social media and marketing content related to TPT's Minnesota Experience/local history documentaries and other history related trends and ideas
  • On-the-job experience supporting our marketing, and community engagement needs
  • Coordinate and support engagement and impact efforts including staffing community events (including weekends)
  • Collaborates with colleagues to manage deliverables.

Administrative Support 10% of time

  • Assist with administrative tasks such as database entry, paperwork/digital filing, and general support
  • Support distribution related tasks including music cue sheets and other paperwork
  • Collaborates with colleagues to manage deliverables.

Other duties as assigned (5% of time)

  • Design and facilitate a presentation for funding partners outlining research work and accomplishments of the internship experience.
  • Participate in internal networking sessions with other interns and staff to gain broader perspective of Twin Cities PBS and our work
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled in a higher education program related to media, marketing, journalism, public history or other related fields
  • Prior experience with video editing, Adobe Premiere Pro CC is required
  • Strong organizational skills and time management
  • Interest in archival and content research
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities
  • Ability to work remotely, with stable internet access
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Able to successfully handle details with accuracy in a fast-paced, multi-client setting
  • Access to reliable transportation to get to tpt offices in downtown St Paul
  • Experience using social media for content creation, including vertical video (TikTok, Instagram, etc.)

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Journalistic, creative, marketing and other writing
  • Familiarity with social media app creative tools (eg. YouTube Studios)
  • Familiarity with social media analytics tools and interpretation
  • Experience and interest Library Sciences
  • Experience working in historical archives
