Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic and visionary Public Library Director to lead our community’s library services into a vibrant future. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of library operations, foster innovative programs, and ensure the delivery of exceptional resources that meet diverse community needs. Your leadership will inspire staff, engage patrons, and promote lifelong learning through dynamic library initiatives. You will be responsible for strategic planning, resource management, and cultivating partnerships that enhance the library’s role as a vital community hub.
Duties
- Develop and implement strategic plans to advance library services, programs, and community engagement initiatives.
- Manage the library’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility while supporting innovative projects and resource acquisition.
- Oversee collection management activities, including cataloging, metadata creation, digitization efforts, and archives processing to maintain accurate and accessible collections.
- Supervise staff recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and professional development to foster a motivated and skilled team.
- Maintain an integrated library system (ILS) for efficient circulation, cataloging, data management, and reporting functions.
- Write grant proposals to secure funding for new programs, technology upgrades, and special projects aligned with community needs.
- Promote library services through social media management, outreach events, and community partnerships to increase visibility and patron engagement.
- Ensure compliance with archival standards and intellectual property laws while managing archives and special collections.
- Lead project management efforts for digitization initiatives, database development, and resource description & access (RDA) standards.
- Foster a welcoming environment by providing excellent customer service and supporting diverse user needs through tailored programs and resources.
Experience
- Proven experience in library administration or leadership roles within public or academic libraries, preferred.
- Strong background in collection development, cataloging standards (such as RDA), archives management, and metadata creation.
- Demonstrated ability in budgeting, grant proposal writing, and resource allocation to support library growth.
- Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS), databases, data collection tools, and digital asset management platforms.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, community stakeholders, vendors, and government agencies.
- Experience in social media management and marketing strategies to promote library programs and services.
- Knowledge of archival standards, digitization processes, intellectual property law related to digital content, and information management best practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
