The Town of Lovettsville, originally known as the German Settlement, is a small community in northern Loudoun County, Virginia, with historical roots dating to 1732. Lovettsville is three miles south of Brunswick, Maryland, and less than 35 miles from Winchester, VA, Martinsburg, WV, and Dulles International Airport. Lovettsville's Utilities Department consists of five wells, two Water Treatment Facilities, one water tower and a 0.375MGD Wastewater Facility.

The Town of Lovettsville seeks a dedicated, responsive, and experienced individual for the position of Public Works Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and capable of performing maintenance, repair, and upkeep activities on Town facilities and grounds including buildings and parks, along with water and sewer infrastructure under the guidance of the Project Manager.

Duties

· Performs various manual tasks, as directed by the Project Manager in coordination with the Town Manager and Utilities Supervisor, to support the general maintenance, repair, and replacement of Town and Utilities facilities.

· Serves as a support coordinator and contract administrator of contractors, state, local, and federal government agencies and other parties performing public works activities in Town.

· General care of trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns of the Town and Utilities facilities including but not limited to: mowing grass, upkeep of trees, rake leaves, operate leaf blower and pulling weeds; load brush, roadside litter, clean ditches curb and gutters; clean up spills and storm damage; cut and chip brush; and install and repair fences;, planting, flower care, watering, seeding, fertilizing and application of weed control; and maintenance, repair, and replacement of street signs as needed.

· Performs sweeping, picking up trash on facility grounds and sidewalks. parking lots, and in trash receptacles to ensure all public areas are kept neat and clean.

· Inspects all Town and Utilities facilities for safety, hazards, deficiencies, and cleanliness.

· Coordinates with Utilities when assistance is needed to complete designated responsibilities.

· Assists in the performance of preventative maintenance, emergency repair, and replacement of mains, service lines, water meters, taps, valves, and hydrants.

· Assists in performing emergency and scheduled water main shutoff, isolating, and closing mains, and turning on and off of water service for nonpayment.

· Assists in traffic control as needed.

· Cleans and maintains a safe working environment.

· Set up facilities and conference rooms for meetings as requested.

· Is considered to be essential personnel, for Town events including but not limited to Lovettsville Mayfest (May), Lovettsville's Summer on the Green Movie and Concert Series (June to August), Lovettsville Oktoberfest (September), annual Tree Lighting and Menorah Lighting Ceremonies (December), and Town Ceremonies to include Memorial Day, Patriot Day, and Veterans Day, emergencies, and weather events including snow removal at Town facilities.

Required Skills and Abilities

· Outstanding customer service and teamwork skills, including strong oral and written communication skills.

· Knowledge of types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in construction, maintenance, and repair work.

· Knowledge of water and sewer collection/distribution systems and the interaction of other utility systems.

· Perform maintenance and repairs to buildings, parking facility, irrigation, HVAC, plumbing, and equipment.

· Operate machines such as air compressors, drills, paint machines, ladders, hand tampers, hand and chain saws, hand tools, power tools, riding mowers, brush chippers, string trimmers, leaf loaders, and other vehicles and equipment as required.

· Knowledge, skills and ability to perform general maintenance on the above machines.

Qualifications:

· Valid Driver’s License and a safe driving record

· HS/GED; minimum of one year experience performing a variety of skilled trades and/or maintenance work.

· Basic knowledge of landscaping tools, equipment, and construction skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· Virginia Commercial Driver’s License, or equivalent.

· Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid or ability to obtain within six months.

· Three (3) or more years of experience performing a variety of skilled trades in building maintenance, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing and/or horticultural and/or grounds maintenance.

Physical Requirements & Work conditions

· Ability to lift objects of at least 50 lbs.

· Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, maneuver over uneven and in small work areas.

· Must have good hand dexterity and eye coordination, with ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.

· Must be able to respond to emergency situations when on-call within one hour.

· Flexibility to work different shifts as work needs dictate.

Compensation and Benefits:

Town Pay Range for Public Works Coordinator Position: $51,000 to $85,000 annually.

Targeted Hiring Range: Up to $70,000 annual salary based on experience and qualifications.
