Position Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of manual, semi-skilled, and skilled labor tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of Village infrastructure, facilities, and equipment. Work includes operation of light and heavy equipment, maintenance of streets and public spaces, and participation in seasonal operations such as snow removal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the work performed and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
- Performs manual, semi-skilled, and skilled labor in the maintenance and repair of Village streets, sidewalks, bike paths, parking lots, parks, and other public infrastructure.
- Participates in snow and ice control operations including plowing, salting, sanding, and clearing Village streets, bike paths, crosswalks, and parking areas.
- Repairs streets, sidewalks, and parking areas using asphalt, cold patch, and concrete materials.
- Installs and maintains pavement markings, traffic control devices, and street signage.
- Assists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, storm sewers, and water mains.
- Maintains Village green spaces including parks, rights-of-way, drainage ditches, and public grounds.
- Assists in the construction and maintenance of recreational facilities such as bike paths, baseball fields, and playground equipment.
- Removes tree limbs, brush, debris, trash, glass, animal carcasses, and other materials from public areas.
- Operates and maintains Village equipment including, but not limited to, pothole patchers, backhoes, wheel loaders, bobcats, chippers, and graders.
- Operates Village vehicles and performs routine safety checks, fluid checks, and general cleaning.
- Performs basic mechanical and maintenance work on Village vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains tools and equipment in safe working order.
- Responds to emergency situations and participates in after-hours or on-call work as required.
- Observes and follows established safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Public Works Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic maintenance equipment and techniques.
- Knowledge of basic automotive systems and building maintenance.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment including snowplows, wheel loaders, backhoes, and graders.
- Ability to operate powered maintenance equipment such as pothole patchers, chippers, welders, concrete saws, mowers, and chainsaws.
- Ability to safely use common hand tools including rakes, shovels, brooms, and other small tools.
- Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and members of the public.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions in the field.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in municipal public works, construction, maintenance, or a closely related field.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required at time of hire.
- Class A CDL preferred.

Pay: $25.01 - $30.00 per hour
