LIMITED TERM

Public Works Maintenance Worker (Status 7) - $20.11 - $22.80 per hour

Public Works Maintenance Worker (Status 3) - $29.61 - $31.09 per hour

The City of Redding is accepting applications for Public Works Maintenance Worker positions within the Parks Division for the Community Services Department. This position performs a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work on City facilities, open spaces and greenbelts throughout the City of Redding .

Two (2) full-time temporary (Status 7) position are funded through the Cal-Fire Grant and will support vegetation management activities on Priority Fuel Management properties within the City of Redding. Funding for these positions has been approved through June 30, 2027.

One (1) full-time regular (Status 3) position is funded through the Boating Access Grant and will support maintenance of river access facilities. Funding for this position has been approved through December 31, 2026, or once current funding is fully exhausted.

We are looking for someone to

• Install, test, repair, or replace services, lines, valves, meters, hydrants and backflow devices
• Operate forklift, tractor loader, tractor mower, brush chipper, truck with or without trailer, use a variety of portable power tools, chainsaws, pole saws, high powered string trimmers, hedgers and a variety of hand tools.
• Raise valve boxes and manholes
• Perform asphalt or cement maintenance and repair
• Assist with street striping and painting
• Perform drainage pipe and ditch maintenance
• Perform various semi-skilled and unskilled work in maintenance of sewage collection system
• Perform landscaping and grounds maintenance including mowing, weeding, pruning trees and shrubs, and picking up litter
• Perform light janitorial and maintenance duties in City restrooms and buildings
• Set up for meetings, conventions, classes, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications we're looking for

Knowledge of:

• Appropriate City and OSHA safety procedures involved in construction and repair work
• Safety procedures when using cones, or barricades for traffic diversion
• Public Health and Safety standards
• Equipment operating techniques and procedures
• Asphalt or cement installation and repair; pipe sizes, uses, and applications
• Hydrant and valve maintenance and repair

Ability to:

• Interact effectively with the public and employees
• Operate all required vehicles and equipment, such as forklift tractor/loader, brush chipper tractor/mower, truck with or without trailer
• Use a variety portable power tools
• Use a variety of hand tools

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:

• Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying
• Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent
• Typical experience would include some previous relevant experience
• Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment
