Publications Production Specialist

Looking for a mission driven collaborative workplace? Join the CARF team as a Publications Production Specialist! This position is a key contributor to the content production and publishing workflow, this role involves overseeing quality control, vendor relations, and inter-departmental process support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:

Publication production oversight
  • Vendor management – ensure timely and high-quality deliverables:
    • Coordinate and interface with external print and amenity vendors.
    • Ensure all files meet specifications.
    • Send print-ready files to vendor(s).
    • Approve proofs of marketing/promotional products.
    • Obtain P&C Manager sign-off to print annual publications.
    • Verify deliverables received.
    • Ensure order invoices are accounted for and correct.
  • Color print management – ensure consistent and accurate color reproduction across all printed materials:
    • Collaborate with external vendors to create color profiles.
    • Manage color profile processes.
    • Continuously improve upon these processes in collaboration with external vendors.
Information design
  • Content management – ensure that publications follow a life cycle that:
    • Provides consistency of content and organization.
    • Optimizes content for reuse and customization.
    • Continuously improves upon the products.
    • Archives both electronic and hard copy products.
  • Content development – provide:
    • Editing for grammar and content, including proofreading.
    • Continuous improvement of content usability and accessibility.
  • Process management – develop and maintain processes that:
    • Include preparation of timelines and schedules.
    • Establish efficiencies and identify areas for improvement.
    • Continuously improve upon these processes.
  • Graphic design – support organizational marketing and branding efforts by:
    • Maintaining website images and graphic assets.
    • Developing templates, style sheets, and output/publishing profiles for electronic and printed documents.
    • Designing and producing collateral materials, such as ads, brochures, newsletters, postcards, forms, logos, stationery, banners, and trade show or other graphics.
    • Responding to requests for use of CARF and CCAC logos.
Other
  • Act as communication liaison for customers, both internal and external, including outside vendors.
  • Develop competencies in new technologies, processes, and applications, and train or assist CARF staff as needed.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The market entry salary for this full-time, non-exempt position is $22.06 hourly USD, payable semi-monthly. Actual starting salary is commensurate with education and experience. WORK LOCATION
Based in Tucson, AZ, this position is not eligible for relocation assistance or full-time remote work. However, this position may be eligible to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, journalism, information design, or three (3) years’ relevant experience.
  • Minimum requirements:
    • Proficient in Excel, Outlook, and at least one major desktop publishing application, e.g., InDesign, FrameMaker, QuarkXPress.
    • Knowledge of and experience with Adobe Acrobat.
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word.
    • Knowledge of creating and applying formatting styles and templates.
    • Understanding of file formats and files conversions.
    • Experience and familiarity with printing processes and preflight procedures.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Preferred requirements:
    • Experience with Paligo CCMS or other structured authoring/content management application.
    • Advanced proofreading and grammar editing skills.
    • Technical writing and editing experience.
    • Experience with creating and applying formatting styles and templates.
    • Proficient in structured authoring.
    • Proficient with at least one markup language, e.g., HTML, XML.
    • Advanced skills in desktop publishing applications, e.g., InDesign, FrameMaker, QuarkXPress.
    • Advanced skills in Adobe Acrobat.
    • Advanced skills in at least one graphic design application, e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. Does not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status, including but not limited to H-1B visa status.
