Pump Mechanic

Job Description

The Plumbing Pump Mechanic is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plumbing and mechanical pump systems, including booster pumps, sewage ejector pumps, sump pumps, circulation pumps, and related control systems. This role ensures all pump systems are operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with NYC codes and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service, and repair all types of plumbing pumps, including domestic water booster systems, sewage ejectors, and sump pumps.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical pump issues using proper testing equipment and techniques.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, lubrication, seal replacements, and alignment checks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Collaborate with electricians and control specialists to ensure proper system operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time on job tickets (via ServiceTitan).
  • Follow all NYC DOB and DEP regulations, including safety and backflow requirements.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and participate in the on-call rotation as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with dispatchers, supervisors, and customers about job status and recommendations.
  • Uphold company standards of professionalism, reliability, and customer-first service at all times.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Plumbing or Pump Mechanic (commercial/residential).
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing booster, ejector, and sump pump systems.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple service calls per day.
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes, pump controls, and NYC compliance requirements.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • FDNY F60/G60 and OSHA 30 certifications preferred.
  • Journeyman or Master Plumber License a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working on rooftops, basements, and mechanical rooms.
  • Willing to work overtime and respond to after-hours calls when required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 - $40.00 per hour
