Position Summary
The Purchase Manager / SCM Head will be responsible for end-to-end supply chain
management including procurement, vendor development, material planning, inventory
control, logistics, and cost optimization for the machine shop. The role requires strong
technical understanding of machining, materials, and manufacturing processes to ensure
timely and cost-effective procurement without compromising on quality or delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute purchase strategies aligned with production and sales targets.
- Ensure on-time procurement of raw materials, bought-out parts, tooling, consumables,
and subcontracted components.
- Monitor supplier performance for delivery, quality, and pricing; maintain approved
vendor list.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and contracts to achieve annual cost savings targets
(4–5% YoY).
- Plan and maintain optimal inventory levels while minimizing stock-outs and excess stock.
- Coordinate closely with PPC, Production, and Quality to ensure material availability and
compliance with technical specifications.
- Identify and develop alternate vendors for critical and imported items to reduce lead time
and risk.
- Monitor and control logistics, inward/outward transport, and subcontracting timelines.
- Implement and maintain ERP-based purchase and inventory tracking systems.
- Generate and review monthly MIS reports for material cost, vendor performance, and
savings achieved.
- Ensure statutory compliance for procurement, taxation, and vendor documentation.

Educational Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering (mandatory).
- MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain Management or Operations (preferred).
Experience Requirements
- 10–18 years of experience in procurement or supply chain within precision machining,
fabrication, or engineering manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of materials (steel, castings, forgings), machining consumables, and
subcontracting processes.
- Hands-on experience in vendor sourcing, cost negotiation, and supplier audits.
- Exposure to ERP-based purchase management and inventory control systems.
Technical & Managerial Skills
- Excellent understanding of machining drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
- Ability to evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities and quality systems.
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills for cost estimation and comparison.
- Experience in logistics planning, subcontract management, and import/export procedures.
- Proficiency in ERP, MS Excel, and reporting dashboards.
