Job Title: Purchase Manager – Steel Scrap Industry

Location: Mumbai & Pune

Reports To: Director / General Manager

Job Summary:

The Purchase Manager will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring ferrous and non-ferrous steel scrap materials from domestic and international markets. The role involves developing strong supplier networks, ensuring timely procurement at competitive prices, maintaining quality standards, and optimizing inventory to support smooth production and sales operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Procurement & Sourcing:

• Identify, evaluate, and select reliable scrap suppliers (yards, dealers, traders, or direct sources).
• Develop procurement strategies for various grades of steel/stainless steel scrap.
• Conduct regular market research and monitor scrap price trends (domestic and global).
• Handle import scrap purchase from international markets (if applicable).

2. Negotiation & Vendor Management:

• Negotiate best pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with vendors and scrap dealers.
• Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and service.

3. Inventory & Logistics Coordination:

• Coordinate with logistics for transportation and timely delivery to plant/yard.
• Monitor stock levels and plan replenishment as per production requirements.
• Ensure adherence to inventory control norms to minimize waste and excess.

4. Quality & Compliance:

• Work closely with the Quality and Production departments to ensure material meets required standards.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations in scrap handling and procurement.
• Maintain documentation for audit and regulatory purposes.

5. Reporting & Analysis:

• Prepare purchase budgets, cost analysis, and monthly procurement reports.
• Track price trends and prepare forecast reports for management decision-making.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of steel scrap grades, specifications, and market pricing.
• Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Understanding of logistics, transportation, and import/export procedures.
• Analytical, result-oriented, and cost-conscious mindset.
• Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, and purchase tracking tools.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Educational Qualification:

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce / Engineering / Supply Chain Management.
• MBA or PG Diploma in Material Management (preferred).

Experience:

• Minimum 1–3 years of experience in procurement within the stainless steel, foundry, or metal scrap industry.
• Experience in handling both domestic and international scrap suppliers will be an added advantage.

As per company policy and experience level
