Position: Purchasing Agent – Corporate Office

Overview
Northern Nurseries is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to support our corporate office. The ideal candidate will excel in data entry and purchasing coordination while maintaining accuracy across multiple locations. This role involves managing vendor relationships, analyzing costs, and ensuring our purchasing operations run efficiently.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and takes pride in maintaining clean, accurate purchasing data. Prior experience in purchasing, especially in a multi-location company, is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Process daily purchases of hard goods for all locations, ensuring accuracy in data entry and purchase documentation.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and freight with vendors and carriers to secure optimal cost savings.
- Create, review, and approve purchase orders, ensuring company margin goals are met.
- Coordinate and schedule product shipments between vendors and locations, including freight rate negotiation.
- Monitor and balance inventory levels across all locations to avoid overstocking and ensure proper allocation.
- Maintain and update purchasing databases, including product codes, pricing, and freight data to align with company margin standards.
- Serve as the primary contact for Site Managers regarding purchasing inquiries, orders, and delivery updates.
- Generate and analyze purchasing and sales reports, including cost analyses, shopping lists, and vendor performance tracking.
- Support seasonal and special projects requiring data collection and analysis as assigned by the Department Manager.
- Provide administrative support to the purchasing team, including data entry, filing, and reporting.
- Assist with cross-training within the department to ensure operational consistency and coverage.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or administrative support (multi-location purchasing experience preferred).
- Exceptional data entry skills with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Excel and Access; experience with purchasing or inventory management software is a plus.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
