Position Overview

The Purchasing Agent plays a critical role in maintaining the flow of materials, equipment, and supplies that support MG Electric’s field and warehouse operations. This position bridges communication between the field, project management, accounting, and vendors to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement across multiple projects. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced construction environment, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and is capable of managing multiple priorities with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Purchasing
  • Source, quote, and purchase electrical materials, tools, and equipment for multiple jobsites.
  • Review and process material requests through Kojo, ensuring accuracy and alignment with job budgets and approved vendors.
  • Verify purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices for accuracy prior to submission to accounting.
  • Negotiate pricing and lead times with vendors to maintain competitive costs and project timelines.
  • Vendor & Supplier Relations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, distributors, and manufacturers.
  • Track vendor performance, pricing trends, and delivery reliability.
  • Maintain an updated Vendor Hot Sheet for internal cost tracking and forecasting.
  • Coordination & Communication
  • Work closely with the warehouse team to coordinate deliveries, returns, and logistics scheduling.
  • Communicate proactively with Project Managers and Superintendents regarding material ETAs, shortages, and substitutions.
  • Collaborate with Accounting to reconcile invoices and resolve discrepancies between PO, delivery, and billing records.
  • Inventory & Tracking
  • Support warehouse inventory management and oversee material transfers between jobs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of purchase records, warranties, and serial numbers for key equipment.
  • Assist in developing reports and analytics to improve visibility into purchasing trends, project consumption, and cost forecasting.
  • Process Improvement
  • Support the rollout and ongoing improvement of the purchasing system and SOPs.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through bulk purchasing, alternate sourcing, and vendor consolidation.
  • Participate in weekly department meetings to review outstanding orders, vendor issues, and upcoming project needs.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of purchasing or procurement experience in construction, electrical contracting, or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of electrical materials, components, and installation phases preferred.
  • Experience with purchasing platforms (Kojo, Procore, or similar systems).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and basic data reporting.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, on-site position located at MG Electric’s main office.
  • Regular collaboration with field teams, warehouse staff, and project management.
  • Occasional visits to jobsites or vendor facilities as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
