About the Position

Southeast Pet is an employee-owned company (ESOP). As an industry leader in the distribution of pet supply products to local retailers in the South-East Region, Southeast Pet reputation for delivering outstanding service spans over 50 years and our team members “make the difference”.

We are seeking a Purchasing Agent with a strong background in the pet industry to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing inventory replenishment, maintaining vendor relationships, negotiating, and ensuring products are available to meet customer demand. Strong computer skills required including experience with data analytics tools.

This role is ideal for a purchasing professional who thrives in a fast-paced distribution environment and has a deep understanding of pet industry products, suppliers, and market trends.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing and replenishment activities for pet industry products.
  • Create and maintain purchase orders using AI and ERP software.
  • Monitor inventory levels and forecast purchasing needs.
  • Analyze sales trends and inventory reports to support purchasing decisions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Manage and maintain vendor, pricing, terms, and MOQs.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to ensure product availability.
  • Resolve vendor, shipment, and inventory discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
  • Expectation to attend major industry trade shows.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of purchasing, procurement, or inventory management or pet industry sales experience.
  • Experience using ERP software.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control and purchasing practices.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in a distribution or wholesale environment.
  • Experience with forecasting and inventory planning.
