Position Summary
The Purchasing Agent will play a key role in ensuring that our field teams have the materials and tools they need to complete jobs on time and within budget. This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, electricians, suppliers, and leadership.
In a growing company like ours, this role offers significant opportunities to expand your responsibilities and help shape our purchasing processes.
Responsibilities
- Purchase electrical materials, tools, and equipment based on project needs, often coordinating across multiple active job sites.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national suppliers to secure competitive pricing, quick lead times, and reliable deliveries.
- Work closely with the field crew and project managers to anticipate needs and avoid job site delays due to missing or late materials.
- Track deliveries, follow up on backorders, and resolve order discrepancies efficiently.
- Maintain basic procurement logs and assist with job cost tracking.
- Keep an eye on inventory levels and coordinate with warehouse or shop staff on restocking essentials.
- Assist with sourcing new or alternative materials when availability or budget becomes an issue.
- Occasionally perform material takeoffs and help price small scopes of work during preconstruction or bid preparation.
- Help create and refine internal purchasing procedures as the company grows.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of purchasing, supply chain, or construction coordination experience (electrical experience preferred, but not required).
- Knowledge of basic electrical materials is a plus, but a willingness to learn quickly is even more important.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to juggle multiple tasks without letting details slip through the cracks.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where responsibilities may shift as the company grows.
- Tech-savvy: familiarity with Excel and comfort learning new systems. Experience with construction software is a bonus.
- Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
