Purchasing Director – Automotive Manufacturing, Global Supply Chain Leadership

Summary:

As a key member of Montaplast’s Steering Committee and reporting directly to the SVP & GM, North America, the Purchasing Director defines and executes the organization’s purchasing and sourcing strategy. This role ensures manufacturing operations have the materials necessary to meet production schedules while maintaining strict standards for quality, inventory, and cost. The Director leads all aspects of supplier quality, strategic sourcing, and cost optimization to support the company’s operational and financial objectives.

Essential Functions:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of purchasing professionals to achieve departmental and corporate goals.
• Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics across supplier performance, supplier quality, order accuracy, and financial (A/P) performance.
• Develop and execute commodity and supply chain strategies that deliver maximum value, leverage, and standardization.
• Negotiate and manage supplier agreements to support business needs while mitigating risk.
• Drive cost reduction, value improvement, and supply chain efficiency initiatives.
• Manage material flow and inventory levels to support on time delivery and optimized working capital.
• Implement supply chain solutions such as vendor-managed inventory (VMI), consignment, and safety stock programs.
• Ensure supplier recovery and performance improvement plans are developed, tracked, and communicated.
• Partner with global purchasing teams in Europe and Asia to align and implement regional and global commodity strategies.
• Support new program launches by providing cost models, supplier sourcing, and target-cost leadership.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as ISM CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or ASCM CPIM / CSCP preferred.
• 5–10 years of progressive purchasing and sourcing leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the automotive sector.
• Proven success in supplier development, strategic sourcing, and contract negotiation.
• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
