About Axiom Engineering

Axiom Engineering is a growing aerospace manufacturer in Wichita, KS, specializing in precision CNC machining and small assemblies. Our success depends on disciplined execution, sound judgment, and people who understand that material availability is foundational to everything that follows.

This role is for someone who values responsibility, understands the importance of details, and takes professional satisfaction in keeping complex systems running smoothly.

ITAR / CUI Eligibility Requirement (Required)

This position includes purchasing materials subject to ITAR and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
Candidates must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.62).
We cannot sponsor work authorization for this role.

Position Overview (Purchasing Role with Real Impact)

The Purchasing & Materials Buyer is responsible for procuring raw materials, hardware, and standards, including ITAR-controlled items, to support production schedules. While many tasks occur daily, this is not repetitive clerical work — it requires attention, judgment, and the ability to recognize issues early and resolve them correctly.

Infor SyteLine presents daily priorities and constraints. Success in this role comes from working those priorities thoughtfully, maintaining accurate data, communicating clearly with suppliers, and ensuring production has what it needs to operate reliably.

You will report to the Supply Chain & Materials Manager and work closely with Production, Receiving, Quality, and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Material Availability

  • Purchase raw materials, hardware, and standards in support of production requirements
  • Actively manage open purchase orders, due dates, and supplier commitments in Infor SyteLine
  • Identify risks to material availability early and take appropriate corrective action
  • Maintain consistent follow-through so issues are resolved completely, not revisited repeatedly

Supplier Communication

  • Conduct professional, clear, and timely communication with suppliers, primarily via email
  • Confirm delivery commitments and address discrepancies with accuracy and professionalism
  • Support supplier corrective actions when delivery or quality issues arise

ERP Discipline & Documentation

  • Execute purchasing transactions accurately and on time (POs, changes, receipts)
  • Maintain data integrity for lead times, pricing, and delivery dates
  • Ensure required ITAR and aerospace documentation is complete and properly maintained

Excel & Analysis

  • Use Excel regularly to organize information, track priorities, and support decisions
  • Maintain clarity in tracking tools so information drives action
  • Support reporting and continuous improvement efforts as needed

What Success Looks Like

  • Production schedules are supported with minimal disruption from material shortages
  • Purchase orders are accurate, current, and actively managed
  • Supplier commitments are understood, documented, and met
  • ERP and Excel data can be relied upon by leadership and operations
  • Problems are addressed early and resolved in a durable way

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of purchasing or materials experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Aerospace experience strongly preferred
  • Experience purchasing metals, hardware, or standards
  • Strong ERP experience (Infor SyteLine preferred)
  • Comfortable and effective with professional email correspondence
  • Strong Excel skills (filters, pivots, lookups, tracking and organization)
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and capable of managing daily priorities independently
  • Comfortable working in a structured, fast-moving environment

Why This Role Matters

The effectiveness of this position directly impacts production flow, schedule performance, and customer commitments. Done well, the work is often invisible — because problems never occur. That quiet reliability is highly valued here.
