QA Automation and Performance Engineer

We are looking for an experienced QA Automation and Performance Engineer to build and manage automated testing, performance testing and software quality controls for our banking, remittance and payment platforms.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing automated test frameworks, validating end-to-end financial transaction flows, identifying performance bottlenecks and integrating testing into our CI/CD pipelines.

This role requires strong experience with automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium, JUnit and REST Assured, performance tools such as k6 and JMeter, and build and quality tools including Bazel and SonarQube.

Key ResponsibilitiesTest Automation

• Design, develop and maintain scalable test automation frameworks.
• Automate web, API, database and end-to-end banking workflows.
• Develop automated regression, smoke, integration and acceptance tests.
• Create reusable test libraries, fixtures, utilities and test data factories.
• Implement automated testing for frontend, backend, microservices and APIs.
• Integrate automated tests with CI/CD pipelines.
• Maintain stable test environments and minimise flaky test cases.
• Review automated test coverage and identify testing gaps.

Banking and FinTech Testing

• Test complete financial transaction journeys across:
• Customer onboarding and KYC/KYB
• Personal and business accounts
• Wallets and multi-currency accounts
• Remittance and international transfers
• Payment processing
• Cards and card transactions
• FX conversion and rate locking
• Ledger and accounting postings
• Reconciliation
• Treasury and liquidity
• Compliance, sanctions and transaction monitoring
• Refunds, reversals, chargebacks and failed transactions
• Validate transaction sequencing across remittance, payments, ledger, treasury and reconciliation systems.
• Confirm that financial transactions are posted correctly using double-entry accounting principles.
• Test maker-checker approvals, limits, compliance holds and exception handling.
• Verify idempotency, duplicate payment prevention and transaction consistency.
• Validate audit trails and regulatory reporting data.

API and Integration Testing

• Develop automated API tests using tools such as REST Assured, Postman and Newman.
• Validate REST APIs, webhooks, asynchronous jobs and event-driven services.
• Test third-party integrations, including:
• KYC and identity verification providers
• Banking partners
• Payment processors
• Card issuers
• Payout providers
• Sanctions screening services
• SMS, email and notification providers
• Validate API authentication, authorisation, schemas, error responses and rate limits.
• Test webhook retries, failed callbacks and duplicate event handling.
• Verify message queues and event processing using systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.

Performance and Load Testing

• Design and execute performance tests using k6, JMeter or Gatling.
• Conduct:
• Load testing
• Stress testing
• Spike testing
• Endurance testing
• Scalability testing
• Capacity testing
• Failover and recovery testing
• Simulate realistic customer and transaction volumes.
• Measure response times, throughput, latency, error rates and system capacity.
• Identify bottlenecks in APIs, databases, application services and infrastructure.
• Establish performance baselines and service-level objectives.
• Produce detailed performance reports and recommendations.
• Work with engineering and DevOps teams to improve application scalability and resilience.

Build, CI/CD and Quality Controls

• Integrate testing with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or similar CI/CD platforms.
• Configure automated quality gates for pull requests and deployment pipelines.
• Work with Bazel to organise, build and execute automated test suites.
• Maintain test targets, dependencies and test execution rules within Bazel.
• Configure and monitor SonarQube quality gates.
• Review code coverage, bugs, vulnerabilities, duplication and maintainability findings.
• Ensure failed critical tests prevent unsafe deployments.
• Support parallel, distributed and containerised test execution.

Test Management and Reporting

• Create test strategies, test plans, test scenarios and detailed test cases.
• Maintain traceability between requirements, user stories and test coverage.
• Record and manage defects through Jira or similar platforms.
• Provide clear defect reports with evidence, logs and reproduction steps.
• Produce release-readiness and quality-status reports.
• Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, release planning and retrospectives.
• Support UAT planning and business-user testing.

Security and Reliability Testing

• Test authentication, authorisation and role-based access controls.
• Validate session management, password policies and multi-factor authentication.
• Test input validation, data masking and sensitive-data protection.
• Support OWASP-based application security testing.
• Validate retry, timeout, circuit-breaker and failover behaviour.
• Test disaster-recovery and operational-resilience scenarios.
• Ensure financial and customer data remain consistent during system failures.

Required Skills and Experience

• 4–7 years of experience in software quality assurance.
• Strong experience in QA automation and performance testing.
• Hands-on experience with Playwright, Selenium, Cypress or similar tools.
• Strong experience with JUnit, TestNG, PyTest or equivalent test frameworks.
• Experience with k6, JMeter, Gatling or similar performance-testing tools.
• Experience testing REST APIs, webhooks and microservices.
• Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Git and pull-request-based development workflows.
• Experience working with Bazel, Maven, Gradle or similar build tools.
• Experience using SonarQube or comparable code-quality platforms.
• Strong SQL skills and experience validating database records.
• Ability to analyse logs, traces and system metrics.
• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and the testing lifecycle.
• Ability to write clear test cases, defect reports and technical documentation.

The candidate should understand, or be willing to develop strong knowledge of:

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience testing banking, remittance, payment gateway or wallet platforms.
• Experience with Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or Kotlin.
• Experience testing containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog or New Relic.
• Experience with distributed tracing tools such as OpenTelemetry or Jaeger.
• ISTQB, performance-testing or security-testing certification is an advantage.
