JOB TITLE: Quality Assurance Technician
ALTERNATE: QA Coordinator / SQF Practitioner
DEPARTMENT: Quality Assurance
REPORTS TO: Technical Services Manager
SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for monitoring and documenting the processes that are followed according to HACCP/SQF/FDA-Preventive Controls plans. This includes verification and documentation activities on processes, instrument calibration, and product attributes that are critical for food safety and quality. The Quality Assurance Technician maintains the Quality Assurance Lab and ensures that samples are collected, evaluated, measured, and recorded. The Quality Assurance Technician maintains the product retains samples and the Quality Assurance records.
FOOD SAFETY
- Ensure the prerequisite programs are followed and documented.
- Ensure the critical control points are monitored correctly and documentation is accurate.
- Perform direct observation verification of critical control monitoring.
- Perform operational inspections to ensure adherence to GMP’s and food safety.
- Evaluate work in process and finished goods for food safety compliance and maintain accurate records.
- Place non-conforming material and equipment on HOLD and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in maintaining SQF training and documentation.
- Team member is responsible for food safety.
FOOD QUALITY
- Evaluate and document the quality of ingredients and packaging.
- Evaluate WIP and finish for compliance to quality standards.
- Conduct in-process tests to verify compliance to product standards.
- Maintain accurate and complete records for finished good quality evaluations.
- Report any deviations from quality standards to QA Manager/SQF Practitioner.
LAB ORGANIZATION AND CLEANINESS
- Ensure that lab equipment is well maintained and calibrated.
- Ensure that the lab is clean and organized.
- Assist QA Manager with supply and equipment inventory and replenishment.
- Ensure that records are accurate, complete, filed and methodically organized.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
- Reports personnel or product safety concerns to supervisor or management and takes action as necessary to protect people and or product
- Replaces other QA Technician in their absence.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proficient in performing lab testing – pH, viscosity, weights, temperatures, calibrations with willingness and ability to learn new testing methods.
- Good analytical skills.
- Ability to write legibly.
- Good verbal and written skills.
- Self-motivated and demonstrated initiative.
