QC Lead

Core Responsibilities

• Quality Management System (QMS): Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (e.g., ISO 9001) for the extrusion and post-extrusion processes.
• Inspection and Testing: Oversee and perform all quality control checks, from raw material inspection (e.g., billet chemical composition, mechanical properties) to in-line checks (e.g., temperature, pressure, speed) and final product inspection (e.g., dimensional accuracy, surface finish, tensile strength, hardness).
• Defect Analysis and Corrective Actions:
• Identify, analyze, and document defects (e.g., surface imperfections, warping, dimensional inaccuracies).
• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for production rejections and customer complaints.
• Implement Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) in collaboration with Production and Engineering teams to minimize defects and improve process efficiency.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all inspections, test results, quality control activities, and process deviations. Prepare quality reports and test certificates for customers.
• Team Leadership and Training: Supervise, train, and mentor the QC team (Inspectors and Engineers) on quality standards, inspection techniques, and the use of precision measuring equipment.
• Standards Compliance: Ensure all products and processes comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., ASTM-B-221, BIS and ISO standards) and customer-specific requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Total Quality Management (TQM) and 5S to enhance product quality and reduce waste/rework costs.

Technical Expertise

* Profound knowledge of the Aluminium extrusion process (pre-heating, ram operations, cooling).

* Expertise in Aluminium alloy specifications and metallurgical properties. * Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, Coordinate Measuring Machines - CMM, optical measurement machines).

* Strong understanding of quality inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.

Process & Quality

* Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001).

* Proven ability in Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data analysis.

* Excellent Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.

Leadership & Soft Skills

* Strong leadership and team management abilities.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external stakeholders (production, engineering, customers, suppliers).

* High level of attention to detail and accuracy. * Ability to work effectively under pressure and time constraints.

Education & Experience

* Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

* Several years of experience (often 5+ years, with a portion in a supervisory/lead role) in quality control/assurance within the Aluminium extrusion or a related manufacturing industry.
