Summary: The Technical Services Supervisor provides hands-on support and technical advice to Technical Services (TS) technicians and operations partners in terms of food safety and quality. The role will have in depth knowledge of Colorado Premium food safety and quality programs: company policies, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), BRC systems requirements and USDA regulations. Identifies and investigates all food safety and quality opportunities covering all products, projects, and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises TS Technicians, and supports plant-wide quality control, process control, raw material quality control, microbiology controls and sanitation efforts.
- Administers all food safety and quality policies, USDA regulations and BRC third party requirements. Models and coaches these expectations to other employees. Works with the TS Manager to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Directs and champion continuous improvements to safety, legality and quality of products and processes. Investigates customer/consumer complaints for products manufactured on site using root cause analysis; determine corrective actions and preventative measures. Supports maintenance of programs to achieve compliance with international, federal, state, or local regulations as they apply to health, food safety, and labeling requirements.
- Work closely with all departments and clearly communicate food safety and quality objectives with management, production, maintenance, vendors, and outside contractors. Manages chemical intervention program including suitability for use, validation, and verification. Manage sanitation program including expectations, monitoring and review of Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Reports food safety and quality issues, corrective actions, and preventative measures to management. Ensure basic hygiene training, GMP’s, HACCP, allergen control, food safety and quality requirements are effective in operations, sanitation, maintenance departments and staff. Administer pre-requisite programs as required, including but not limited to pest control, plant improvement program, operational methods, maintenance for food safety, sanitation, and personnel practices, etc.
- Ensures staff are trained to ensure the best efficiencies. Lead, development, coach the TS Technicians on the facility’s TS programs. Assists in the effective implementation and/or utilization of approved analytical methods to ensure the high quality of raw materials, semi-finished products, finished products and packaging materials. Manages regular product review, retention samples and quality assurance monitoring program. Actively supports the pre-operational inspection program, as well as the test and hold program.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, food science, nutrition or related field required, or equivalent relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance in a protein-related industry.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, and knowledge of industry product reporting systems.
- Verifiable experience planning and conducting product developments, data collection, and interpretation of results to drive program and technical knowledge forward, developing robust action plans, risk assessments, and contingency planning.
- Experience managing a broad range of quality-related functions, including HACCP plans, GMP’s, GFSI, including a solid working knowledge of all state and local health department regulations and policies applicable to food safety and compliance.
- Possess critical thinking and root cause analysis. Must understand and use statistics to control manufacturing processes. Competent in interpreting and navigating the regulatory environment in the U.S. and the ability to improve existing systems or procedures.
- Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams, internally and externally with demonstrated problem-solving skills (pays attention to details and effort to understand causes instead of just the effects) and creativity for developing innovative solutions and applications.

This position also participates in vacation and sick leave pay programs. The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. This position is bonus eligible, however, anyone who commences employment after the beginning of the bonus plan period is eligible for a prorated portion of any bonus deemed earned and payable if he or she is hired and active prior to 180 days before the bonus plan period ends.
