Quality Control CMM Technician

Position Summary:

Quality Control (QC) Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Technician operates CMM equipment to perform measurement, inspection, and testing of components and devices using previously prepared inspection programs to confirm manufactured parts align with defined expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs first piece, in-process, and final, measurement, inspection, and testing of components and devices primarily with CMMs.
  • Perform manual Quality Control Inspection per the priority board, pending CMM demand. Requires the use of traditional quality tools.
  • Mounts/installs tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on CMM.
  • Maintain CMM and associated equipment in good working condition; verify calibration.
  • Document and report nonconforming materials; place nonconforming parts on “hold”.
  • Read specifications and part prints to interpret requirements including dimensional, physical, functional, and visual requirements.
  • Communicate with manufacturing, engineering, and production personnel from all departments to exchange pertinent information and problem solve issues.
  • Meet and maintain established efficiency and effectiveness standards established for the quality CMM function.
  • Ensure proper and complete documentation off all inspection paperwork along with all data in ERP system meeting requirements of ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820 and EUMDR 2017/745.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • 2+ years’ experience
    • In a quality control role
  • Preferred experience with
    • Precision machine shop (CNC) environment
    • CMM Usage
    • Regulated Industry (i.e., ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820, ISO 9001)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints with knowledge and understanding of GD&T.
  • Proficient in the use of quality tools micrometer & caliper, height stands, thread gages, dial indicators, gage pins, radius gages, optical comparator, and vision machines.
  • Computer literate in various software applications including Microsoft Office. Experience with Epicor and HighQA a plus.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide with ease.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously.


Work Environment:

  • The work environment is shared between an office/laboratory setting and traditional manufacturing.
  • The noise level is considered mild (laboratory) to moderate (shop floor).
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, coolants, and oils, likely.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to use hands to type, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, and read fluently in English.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Sit and stand for up to 12 hours per day; some walking is required.
  • Repetitive movement including bending and twisting.

Education, Certifications, and/or Licenses Requirements:

  • Technical certification with associates degree in science, mathematics, or technical discipline, preferred, but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of equivalent experience can supersede the educational requirements
