I. Inspection and Testing (The Core Function)

  • Daily Site Inspections: Conduct routine and critical inspections of all ongoing construction activities (e.g., excavation, concrete pouring, rebar fixing, masonry, finishes) to ensure adherence to approved quality standards and method statements.
  • Material Inspection: Inspect all incoming materials (e.g., cement, steel, aggregates, piping, electrical components) upon delivery to the site. Verify material certifications (Mill Certificates, Test Certificates) against project specifications before authorizing usage.
  • Coordinate Testing: Organize, witness, and document all required quality tests, including:
  • Civil/Structural: Concrete cube/slump tests, soil compaction tests, rebar tensile tests, weld inspections (NDT).
  • MEP: Hydro-tests for piping, insulation resistance tests, and functional commissioning tests.
  • Inspection Requests (IRs): Prepare and submit formal Inspection Requests to the Consultant/Client's Representative for hold points as defined in the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP). Ensure the activity is complete and ready for inspection before submission.
  • Punch Listing: Generate and manage punch lists (snags) during pre-handover phases, documenting all items requiring correction or completion before the work is accepted.

II. Documentation and Reporting

  • Develop Quality Documentation: Assist in the preparation and review of the project's core quality documents, including:
  • Method Statements: Detailed, step-by-step procedures for executing specific construction tasks.
  • Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs): Schedules and checklists outlining the required inspections, tests, acceptance criteria, and hold points for each work phase.
  • Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs): Identify, document, and report all instances of non-conformance (defects or deviations from standards). Monitor the implementation of corrective and preventive actions until the issue is formally closed out.
  • Documentation Control: Maintain a comprehensive and organized filing system for all quality records, including:
  • Approved material submittals.
  • Daily inspection reports and checklists.
  • Test results and calibration certificates for testing equipment.
  • Approved drawings and revisions.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit regular (daily, weekly, monthly) QC reports to the Project Manager and/or QA/QC Manager detailing site activity status, inspection results, non-conformance trends, and testing progress.

III. Compliance and Coordination

  • Standard Compliance: Ensure that all construction works strictly comply with the latest project drawings, specifications, local regulatory codes, and relevant international standards (e.g., ASTM, BS, ISO).
  • Subcontractor Management: Monitor the quality performance of subcontractors and vendors. Ensure they follow approved method statements and utilize only approved materials.
  • Inter-Departmental Coordination: Liaise closely with the Site Construction Team to schedule inspections, the Procurement Team for material submittal tracking, and the Planning Team to ensure quality checks align with the project schedule.
  • As-Built Documentation: Work with the project team to compile the final quality documentation (often called the "Quality Dossier" or "Turnover Package") required for project handover, which includes all test results and inspection records.
