Quality Control Inspector

General/ Summary:

The Quality Control Inspector (QCI) will perform a variety of field quality functions as needed throughout the strawberry season. QCI will be responsible for inspecting strawberries at receiving point or in the warehouse and reporting the quality of the produce to the sales and grower relations teams via reports and/or text message. QCS may also help manage inventories, workloads, and perform quality inspection reports of existing warehouse inventory for quality assurance. QCI will work closely with the grower relations team ensuring quality meets Wish Farms standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Quality Control Inspector will be asked to perform a variety of responsibilities and rotate duties with other QC staff from time to time to manage workload and travel schedules. Some of these duties will be performed every season, while others may be done periodically.

Responsible for the quality control process upon receipt of produce, on hand inventories, and products being selected for customer shipments (staging).

  • Follow USDA and good delivery standards to properly inspect all produce throughout receiving and shipping process.
  • Maintain high quality standards while continually gaining expertise to help improve the inspection processes and procedures.
  • Perform inspections of berry commodities
  • Monitor food safety practices and notify manager if an operation appears out of compliance.
  • Safely handle and operate any equipment needed to perform the job, such as: pulp thermometers, temperature recorders, tablets and mobile phones, scales, carts, etc.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by management based on operational needs.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

The Quality Control Inspector must meet the following qualifications and requirements, some of which may be acquired through training once on the job.

  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the job duties; typically includes expertise in the field of agriculture and food safety.
  • Proven computer skills, including database entry and the ability to learn new programs.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and dependability.
  • Working knowledge of good delivery and USDA inspections and guidelines for fresh produce.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with fresh produce
  • Experience working in agriculture
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish
