Quality Control Inspector (Oil & Gas)

Job Summary

Encore is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control (QC) Inspector with a strong background in mechanical assembly and pressure components. This role is responsible for ensuring that structural skids, process piping, and pressure vessels meet stringent client specifications and industry codes, including AWS D1.1, ASME B31.3, and ASME Section VIII Division 1.

The QC Inspector will support the quality and compliance of fully integrated compressor skids, including engines/motor drivers, compressors, cooling systems, and interconnecting piping. This position involves performing in-process and final inspections, maintaining detailed documentation, and coordinating with third-party inspectors to ensure a “right-the-first-time” quality standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform visual and dimensional inspections during fabrication to ensure compliance with applicable codes (ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1, ASME Section VIII Div. 1)
• Verify fit-up and welding of process piping and pressure vessels, ensuring proper alignment and stress-free connections
• Conduct visual weld inspections (VT), including fit-ups, root passes, and final weld profiles in accordance with approved WPS/PQRs
• Maintain material traceability, including heat numbers and material mapping; review Mill Test Reports (MTRs) for compliance
• Coordinate and witness non-destructive examinations (RT, UT, MT, PT) and review results for acceptance
• Witness hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing, ensuring proper procedures, calibrated gauges, and safety hold times
• Identify non-conformances, issue NCRs, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Compile and maintain inspection documentation, including weld logs, NDE reports, hydrostatic test reports, and ASME data reports (U-1 forms)
• Perform inspections during skid assembly, including engines, compressors, vessels, coolers, auxiliaries, and piping systems
• Verify fastener selection and torque procedures for high-pressure flange connections
• Organize and maintain electronic job files, including weld maps, inspection reports, alignment records, and equipment certifications

Required Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ASME Section IX, ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII Div. 1, and AWS D1.1
• Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, including General Arrangement (GA) drawings, P&IDs, isometric piping drawings, and structural skid drawings
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and weld gauges
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, for documentation and reporting
• High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
• 5+ years of experience in compressor skid packaging or similar fabrication environments (e.g., Cat engines, Ariel compressors)
• ASNT Level II certification in MT, PT, or RT film interpretation

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a manufacturing/shop environment
• Ability to stand for extended periods, climb, and work at heights
• Comfortable working in confined spaces (e.g., vessel internals)
