Job Summary

The Quality Control & Lab Technician performs field and laboratory testing on soil, concrete, and asphalt materials to verify compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable standards. The role supports construction operations by collecting samples, executing standardized tests, documenting results, and communicating findings to project managers and field leadership. This position includes routine travel to construction sites using a company vehicle.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Duties/Responsibilities

· Perform field density and moisture testing of soils (e.g., nuclear gauge, sand cone) and laboratory compaction tests (Proctor).

· Sample, mold, and break concrete cylinders; perform slump, air content, and temperature measurements.

· Collect asphalt samples; perform asphalt content/gradation testing and related quality control procedures as directed.

· Calibrate and maintain laboratory and field testing equipment; keep calibration records current.

· Accurately document sampling locations, test methods, and results; prepare and submit daily reports.

· Notify the QC Manager and field supervision of non-conforming materials or results and recommend corrective actions.

· Drive to multiple construction sites to perform on-site sampling and testing in coordination with project schedules.

· Comply with company safety policies and procedures and maintain a clean, organized lab and vehicle.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

· Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow standardized test methods (e.g., ASTM/AASHTO).

· Effective communication and documentation skills; proficiency with basic computer/tablet data entry.

· Mechanical aptitude to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain testing equipment.

· Ability to plan daily work, prioritize multiple site visits, and meet reporting deadlines.

· Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently in the field.

Education and Experience

· High school diploma or equivalent desired.

· Experience in construction materials testing (soil, concrete, or asphalt) preferred; willing to train motivated candidates.

· Certifications such as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I, TTCP/ATTI, CAPA, or NICET are a plus.

Physical Requirements

· Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.

· Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.

· Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and loud machinery.

· Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
