Position Summary: The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for ensuring product and process compliance with internal standards, customer-specific requirements, and IATF 16949. This role requires technical expertise in automotive quality tools, strong problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams in driving sustainable improvements. The engineer will support new product launches, manage quality documentation, and facilitate corrective actions with a focus on root cause elimination and prevention.
Pay Range: $61,152.00-$91,728.00
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and audit Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, and PFMEAs in alignment with AIAG and customer-specific formats (Ford, GM, Stellantis, Volkswagen).
- Lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies including Gauge R&R, bias, linearity, and stability evaluations.
- Conduct Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis and implement control strategies to ensure process capability and stability.
- Prepare and submit PPAP documentation including dimensional results, material certifications, capability studies, and ISIRs.
- Manage customer complaints, initiate 8D problem-solving, and facilitate containment, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Interpret and apply OEM customer-specific requirements and ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and VDA 6.3 standards.
- Interface directly with customer quality representatives during audits, product reviews, and issue resolution.
- Maintain and update supplier quality manuals, manage sub-supplier quality performance, and conduct supplier audits. Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering to implement engineering solutions to quality issues.
- Support launch activities, including process validation, capability studies, and quality planning.
- Lead cross-functional teams in problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives using Fishbone Diagrams, Five Whys, and Pareto Analysis.
- Utilize GD&T to interpret prints and ensure dimensional compliance during product and process evaluations.
- Manage quality-related projects including timelines, resources, and deliverables.
- Provide technical training to operators, inspectors, and engineers on quality tools and standards.
- Supervise and mentor quality technicians and specialists as needed to support departmental goals.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field.
- ASQ certifications (CQE, CQA, Six Sigma Black Belt) preferred.
- IATF 16949 Auditor Certification is a plus.
- VDA 6.3 Auditor certification is a plus.
Experience:
- 1-5 years of relevant experience in quality assurance.
- Proven experience with AIAG Core Tools and customer-specific requirements.
Essential Skills:
- Proficiency in FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and PPAP.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and mechanical inspection techniques.
- Experience with CMM, vision systems, and other metrology equipment.
- Skilled in problem-solving methodologies and data analysis.
- Effective communicator with strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with Plex or similar quality management systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Good vision and hearing.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (50+ pounds occasionally; 20-40 pounds monthly).
- Manual dexterity for extended keyboard use.
- Mobility to stand, walk, and climb as needed.
