Job Summary:
SMPC Industries is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Quality Engineer to lead quality control, customer complaint handling, and process improvement activities. The role requires strong technical expertise in sheet metal processing, understanding of industry tolerances, and the ability to attend customer complaints through on-site visits when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee quality inspection processes for incoming, in-process, and outgoing materials.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and internal quality guidelines.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).
- Attend customer complaints at the customer site, assess issues, and provide technical resolutions.
- Maintain quality documentation, reports, calibration records, and inspection logs.
- Guide and train inspectors on material standards, measurement techniques, and quality checkpoints.
- Coordinate with production, dispatch, and maintenance teams to ensure quality consistency.
- Implement process improvements to reduce defects, rework, and customer rejections.
- Manage quality audits and support ISO-related compliance activities (if applicable).
- Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams regarding quality issues.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical / Production / Metallurgy Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in Quality Control / QA in a sheet metal processing, fabrication, steel service centre, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of steel coil/sheet tolerances, slitting & CTL processes, surface defects, and measurement tools.
- Experience in customer complaint handling and on-site technical visits (mandatory).
- Proficient in using measuring instruments: Vernier, Micrometer, Hardness Tester, Bore Gauge, etc.
- Ability to prepare inspection reports, QC checklists, and quality metrics.
- Good analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of safety, process control, and quality assurance standards.
Work Timing:
General Shift (with flexibility for extended hours or occasional shift overlap based on quality needs).
Customer site visits may require travel within Tamil Nadu or nearby states.
