Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer supports efforts and plans to coordinate the quality control program designed to ensure continuous production consistent with established standards for Colson Group worldwide. A proven hands-on and metrics-driven approach to driving results in a multi-cultural environment is a critical success factor.

Essential Job Functions

Support One Colson quality and continuous improvement strategies, programs, and procedures.

  • Drive Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods for analyzing data.
  • Maintain the CPAR quality reporting process and related follow.
  • Implement continuous improvement activities identified by Director of Quality as related to product quality.
  • Maintains quality control objectives, and coordinates objectives with production procedures to maximize quality, reliability and minimize costs.
  • Conduct training activities related to quality and reliability.
  • Investigates customer complaints regarding quality and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Collaborates with Engineering, Operations, and ISCs on daily basis for project planning and resolution of complaint cases.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% - customers and internal.
  • Ensure that quality-related product risks are adequately controlled in accordance with internal requirements and customer expectations.
  • Acting as main point of contact for product quality escalations internally and externally.
  • Follow directives for maintaining and improving departmental operational performance to meet the requirements of regulatory authorities, company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), external / internal customers, with respect to quality, service, lead time and cost.
  • Development of departmental SOPs (writing, revising, and approving), ensuring regulatory compliance in conjunction with being ‘fit for purpose’ operationally and commercially.
  • Perform activities in accordance with Colson company SOPs and Health and Safety policies.
  • Support internal audit programs in place, perform and report as scheduled.
  • Support Part Submission Warrants and customer respective forms for Advance Product Quality Planning.
  • Supporting all validation activities, including validation strategy and approval of protocols and reports.
  • Providing support and awareness of new quality legislation and testing that impacts the business.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge

  • Associate degree or quality engineer certification required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, APQP, PPAP and 8D Processes.
  • Knowledge of Control Plans, DOE, FMEA’s, Root Cause Analysis, Capability Analysis, Probability, etc.
  • Quality Certification- 6 Sigma, and fully familiar with the ISO9001 Standards ideally Lead Auditor training for QMS Assessment.

Experience

  • Five years experience of progressive quality control responsibilities within an organization.
  • Five years previous Quality Engineer experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Four years experience with ISO 9001/TS-16949 compliance.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Broad knowledge of theory and statistical principles as well as statistical process control.
  • Excellent communication skills-written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to completion.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with customers and other members of the organization.
  • Ability to work with both front-line manufacturing and corporate employees.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong Understanding of ISO 9001/TS-16949 Compliance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability Strong Feasibility, Factory Acceptance Testing and Validation is a plus.
