The Quality Engineer (GIS) is responsible for implementing and monitoring quality assurance and quality control activities during the installation, testing, and commissioning of Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) at the project site. This role ensures compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements, and QA/QC procedures for GIS installation.
- Conduct site inspections for GIS switchgear assembly, erection, wiring, SF gas handling, and testing activities.
- Monitor compliance with and project-specific standards e.g., IEC, IEEE.
- Witness and verify Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Review and approve material certificates, calibration reports, and test results.
- Issue RFIs (Requests for Inspection) and coordinate inspections with client/consultant.
- Prepare and close NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), punch lists, and corrective actions.
- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of all quality records.
- Collaborate with site teams, contractors, and vendors to resolve quality-related issues.

Skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or related discipline.
- 3-5 years' site experience in GIS, AIS, substations, or electrical power projects.
- Strong knowledge of GIS components and installation/testing procedures.
- Familiarity with SF gas handling, leak testing, and safety protocols.
- Experience in QA/QC processes: ITPs, method statements, NCR handling, RFIs, and material inspections.
- Knowledge of international standards: IEC 62271 series, IEEE, ISO 9001 and other relevant standards.
Preferred Certifications
- ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor (Quality Management Systems).
- Manufacturer GIS training (ABB, Siemens, Hitachi, etc.).
- HSE training (OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent).
