Industrial Quality Engineer

Location: New Albany, Ohio | Full Time | Exempt

Job Summary

The Industrial Quality Engineer supports a fast-paced contract packaging operation serving multiple CPG customers. This role is responsible for improving packaging line performance, strengthening quality systems, supporting preventive maintenance systems, and ensuring compliance with client, regulatory, and food safety standards.

Approximately 50 percent of time will be spent on the production floor supporting line startups, validations, audits, maintenance coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead packaging line efficiency improvement initiatives focused on OEE, labor optimization, material flow, and changeover reduction
  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance to troubleshoot downtime drivers on high-speed assembly, cartoning, labeling, case packing, and palletizing lines
  • Support equipment validation activities including IQ, OQ, and PQ for new automation, barcode scanning, printing systems, and client specific requirements
  • Own daily production, scrap, and downtime scorecards and translate data into actionable floor-level improvements
  • Own preventive maintenance tracking within CMMS, ensuring PM schedules are current, completed, and documented
  • Maintain and improve digital quality systems including nonconformance tracking, CAPA documentation, and client workflows
  • Manage positive release processes and lot traceability requirements across multiple customer SKUs
  • Analyze scrap, rework, and customer complaint data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Support internal and customer audits within ISO 9001 and SQF environments
  • Drive structured continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies

Skills and Behaviors

  • Comfortable operating in a high-mix, high-changeover manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate production data into practical floor improvements
  • Hands-on presence on the production floor, building trust with operators and supervisors
  • Able to manage multiple client priorities simultaneously without losing attention to detail
  • Clear communicator across leadership, operators, maintenance technicians, and customer representatives
  • Structured problem solver who moves from root cause analysis to sustained corrective action
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of assigned systems and proactively communicates improvement opportunities

Credentials and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering plus minimum three years of relevant manufacturing experience, or seven years of industrial manufacturing experience in lieu of degree
  • Minimum three years of experience in high-volume manufacturing or packaging operations
  • Demonstrated results in improving OEE, reducing scrap, or strengthening production processes

Preferred

  • Experience supporting automated production lines including vision systems, barcode verification, and printing systems
  • Experience with digital QA systems, ERP platforms, or CMMS programs
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, SQF, or customer audit environments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
