Quality Inspector

Purpose of the Role:


Performs a variety of standard and special visual and/or mechanical inspection in the Injection Molding, Secondary Operations and Composite Inspection areas and will ensure compliance to Spaulding Composites and to customer requirements. The quality inspectors will demonstrate knowledge of product specification and the use of inspection tooling and/or inspection gauges to complete product inspections. Inspectors must read, understand, and correctly interpret drawings, worksheets, specification, and other quality related documentation.

Accuracy in performing inspections tasks, writing documentation, and communicating information is essential. The qualified inspectors must demonstrate the aptitude for measurements and use of measurement tools, demonstrate the ability to speak, read and write and maintain a consistent record of adherence to work and quality standards.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to use customer related quality documentation.
  • Inspect Detect and Inform any inspection acceptance and/or rejection as required.
  • Assist to reduce any defects and improve product quality.
  • Hourly visual inspections at each production machine.
  • Collection of product samples according to AQL levels and testing for conformity.
  • Review calibration status prior to use.
  • Review any Work Instruction and/or Procedure for your department area and ensure compliance.
  • Document nonconforming material, clearly and accurately.
  • Communicate with all individuals effectively.
  • Participate in team meetings as required.
  • Participate in process improvements teams and/or complete relative documentation when required.
  • Assist in the continuous growth of the Quality Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Used the NCMR database to input any non-compliances.
  • Use the MDA database for any required daily inspection input.
  • Use the SDA database for any required daily inspection input.
  • Use and review Inspector Department internal documentation.
  • Work within the ISO 9001 framework for all internal documentation.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • CMM operation.
  • Computer knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Blueprint reading at a moderate to advanced level.
  • Must be familiar with inspection tooling/gauging equipment and metrology equipment.
  • Effective verbal, written and mathematical skills.
  • Must demonstrate good hand/eye coordination.
  • Must be able stand for a long period and lift twenty-five pounds (25) from the floor to chest height.


Education, Experience and/or Skills Preferred:

  • An Associate Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or other discipline, or related work experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in quality area, preferably in aerospace and/or medical industry.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485 and ITAR
