Job Title: In-Process Inspector
Department: Quality Control
Reports To: Quality Engineer
Position Summary:
The In-Process Inspector is responsible for inspecting and verifying machined steel components during various stages of production to ensure they meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role plays a key part in maintaining product accuracy, preventing defects, and supporting continuous improvement within the machining department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform dimensional and visual inspections of machined steel parts during production using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, CMM, etc.).
- Verify in-process dimensions, surface finish, and other critical features according to engineering drawings and process control plans.
- Accurately document inspection results and maintain inspection records in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Identify and report nonconformities, assist with root cause analysis, and verify corrective actions.
- Collaborate closely with machine operators and production supervisors to ensure parts meet quality standards before moving to the next operation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T(Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical specifications.
- Support first article inspections (FAI) and final inspection processes as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and promote a culture of quality throughout the organization.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or coursework in machining, manufacturing, or quality assurance preferred.
- 1 year of experience in machining inspection or precision manufacturing environment (steel or metalworking experience preferred).
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools and instruments.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems a plus.
- Moderate computer skills (MS Office, ERP or Quality Management Systems, Optical Comparator, etc.).
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed inspections.
- Comfortable working in a machining or manufacturing environment.
Work Schedule:
- [1st Shift: 6:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday - Thursday] [2nd Shift: 4 pm - 2:30 am, Monday-Thursday]
- Overtime may be required based on production needs.
