The Quality Inspector – Painting is responsible for ensuring that all painting, coating, and surface preparation works in oil and gas construction projects comply with project specifications, international standards, and company quality procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily inspections of surface preparation, priming, intermediate, and final coating applications to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements.
- Verify environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point, etc.) prior to and during coating application.
- Check coating materials for approval status, shelf life, and proper storage conditions.
- Monitor paint mixing, thinning, and application procedures in line with manufacturer data sheets (MDS).
- Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) for coating thickness, adhesion, and surface profile using appropriate instruments (DFT gauge, holiday detector, etc.).
- Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports, checklists, and calibration records.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (ISO 12944, SSPC, NACE, ASTM, etc. ).
- Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and client representatives to resolve quality-related issues on site.
- Support QA/QC audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Promote a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement among the construction and painting teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in quality inspection of painting/coating works within the oil and gas construction industry, preferably on large EPC projects (onshore/offshore) in the UAE or GCC .
- Strong knowledge of coating systems, paint specifications, and QA/QC inspection techniques.
- Proficient in using coating inspection instruments (DFT gauges, holiday detectors, hygrometers, etc.)
- Certifications: NACE CIP Level 2 or Level 3 OR SSPC/AMPP PCI Level 2 or Level 3 OR
BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector Grade 2 or 1
