Position Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Quality Management System (QMS), inspection, and metrology functions within an aerospace die cast manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, customer, and regulatory requirements while preventing defects, managing risk, and supporting efficient production flow. The Quality Manager serves as the site authority for inspection strategy, dimensional interpretation, and customer quality interface.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management System (QMS)

Maintain and continuously improve the AS9100/ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Ensure effective document control, configuration management, traceability, and record retention.

Own inspection, metrology, and quality engineering processes within the QMS.
Inspection & Metrology
-
Lead quality inspection, and CMM/metrology teams.

Define and control receiving, in-process, and final inspection strategies using risk-based methodologies.

Support manufacturing through process capability analysis, control plans, and defect prevention activities.

Strong knowledge of PPAP and APQP requirements (including CpK & PFMEA)

Lead CMM operations including inspection planning, program validation, reporting standards, and environmental controls.

Ensure robust measurement systems through MSA, GR&R, calibration, and uncertainty management.
Manufacturing & Technical Expertise
-
Apply strong knowledge of die casting processes, tooling, alloys, porosity, heat treatment, and CNC machining to assess and mitigate quality risk.

Serve as site expert in drawing interpretation and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Resolve dimensional and specification interpretation issues internally and with customers.
Nonconformance & Corrective Action

Lead nonconformance management, material review, and disposition decisions.

Drive root cause analysis and corrective action using structured methods (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).

Reduce recurring defects, customer escapes, and cost of poor quality (COPQ).
First Article & New Product Introduction

Ensure compliance with AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.

Oversee FAIR preparation, review, approval, and customer submission (Net-Inspect or customer portals).

Support NPI through inspection readiness, process qualification, and APQP/PPAP activities.
Audits & Customer Interface

Lead internal, customer, and third-party audits (AS9100, NADCAP, customer audits).

Manage audit findings and corrective action closure.

Act as primary quality contact for customers and auditors.
Leadership & Performance Management

Develop and coach quality inspectors, and metrology personnel.

Establish training, certification, and competency programs.
-
Analyze quality KPIs, defect trends, and COPQ to drive continuous improvement.

Apply risk-based decision making, including stopping production or shipment when quality is at risk.

Assume responsibility for the Director of Quality responsibilities when absent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical field.
-
6–10 years of quality experience in aerospace or regulated manufacturing; die casting experience preferred.

3-6 years of leadership experience

Strong knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, GD&T, CMM/metrology (preferred), and corrective action systems.

Demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.

Own overall quality performance, ensuring issues are identified, resolved, and prevented.
