Quality Manager

Position Overview:

Power Technology, Inc. is seeking a strategic and hands-on Quality Manager to lead our Quality Management System (QMS) in support of high-performance laser products serving the defense, military, industrial, and medical markets.

This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry standards while leading the company’s initiative toward AS9100 certification and maintaining ISO 9001 compliance. The Quality Manager will play a critical leadership role in supporting mission-critical applications where reliability, traceability, and performance are non-negotiable.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Quality Management & Compliance

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s QMS.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and applicable regulatory requirements supporting defense and medical applications.
  • Drive and manage the organization’s AS9100 certification initiative, including gap analysis, documentation development, training, and registrar coordination.
  • Ensure full product traceability, configuration control, and risk management practices consistent with aerospace and military standards.
  • Oversee document control, calibration systems, inspection protocols, and quality records retention.

Operational Quality Leadership

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes.
  • Oversee inspection and testing activities to ensure product reliability for mission-critical applications.
  • Implement risk-based thinking, FMEA, control plans, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report quality metrics to executive leadership.
  • Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure design-for-quality and manufacturability principles.

Supplier & Customer Quality

  • Develop and manage supplier qualification and performance monitoring programs.
  • Conduct supplier audits, particularly for components supporting defense and medical customers.
  • Interface directly with customers on quality requirements, audits, corrective actions, and compliance documentation.
  • Support contract review processes to ensure alignment with military, industrial, and medical specifications.

Continuous Improvement & Culture

  • Champion a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead Lean, Six Sigma, or similar operational excellence initiatives.
  • Train cross-functional teams on quality standards and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare for and lead internal and external audits.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing, or related technical field OR equivalent combination of education, technical training, and progressively responsible quality leadership experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in quality assurance/quality management within a manufacturing environment (laser, photonics, industrial, defense, electronics, or medical device industries preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, leading, or maintaining AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience supporting defense, military, aerospace, industrial, or regulated medical customers strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience managing quality teams, audit programs, and cross-functional initiatives.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Knowledge of quality management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with risk management, configuration control, and traceability systems.
  • Strong background in RCA, CAPA, FMEA, SPC, and data-driven problem solving.
  • Familiarity with regulatory environments supporting medical or military applications.
