About CAMCO Manufacturing
CAMCO Manufacturing, Inc. is an AS9100-certified precision CNC manufacturer based in Sayre, Pennsylvania, serving the most demanding customers in aerospace, defense, and high-tolerance industrial sectors — including Raytheon, DRS Technologies, and other prime and Tier 1 defense contractors. With 80 employees across seven departments and coordination with five overseas offices, we are large enough that your work matters and small enough that your work is seen.
Our shop runs on tight tolerances, AS9100 discipline, and a culture where doing it right the first time is the standard, not the goal. Every part we ship has someone's name on it, and quality is how we keep that promise.
About the Role
The Quality Manager is one of the most visible and consequential leadership roles at CAMCO. This person owns our quality management system end-to-end — from first article inspection through final shipment, from supplier PPAPs through customer corrective actions, from gage calibration through internal audits. You will lead our quality department, partner daily with engineering, production, and maintenance leadership, and serve as the primary quality voice to our defense and aerospace customers during audits, source inspections, and escalations.
We are looking for a hands-on leader, not a desk manager. The right person walks the floor, knows the difference between a callout and a basic dimension, can read a complex aerospace print without a tutorial, and gets energized — not overwhelmed — when a customer escalation hits the inbox.
This is a 50-hour-per-week role. We are upfront about that because the customers we serve and the standards we hold ourselves to require leaders who are present, engaged, and accountable. In return, you'll get real ownership, a seat at the leadership table, and a clear path toward Director of Quality for the right performer.
What You'll Do
- Lead, develop, and manage the quality department, including inspectors, quality technicians, and quality engineers
- Own and continuously improve the AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality management system, including procedures, work instructions, forms, and document control
- Plan, schedule, and lead internal audits across all seven departments; manage findings to closure with documented root cause and corrective action
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns, including 8D reports, corrective action requests (CARs), returned material authorizations (RMAs), and source inspection coordination with Raytheon, DRS, and other defense customers
- Lead root cause analysis investigations using structured tools (5 Why, fishbone, 8D, FMEA) and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to verifiable closure
- Manage the calibration program for all gages, fixtures, and measurement equipment; maintain calibration records and ensure measurement system integrity
- Oversee inspection systems including first article inspection (AS9102), in-process inspection, final inspection, and documentation packages
- Review customer prints, specifications, and contractual flow-down requirements; ensure quality plans are correctly built before production releases
- Partner with engineering, production, and maintenance on new part introduction, process qualification, and manufacturing readiness reviews
- Maintain AS9100 / ISO 9001 certification readiness; lead external registrar audits and customer audits as the primary host
- Coordinate quality requirements and communication with CAMCO's five overseas offices
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, rework reduction, first-pass yield, and on-time quality performance
- Define, track, and report quality KPIs including PPM, COPQ, first-pass yield, customer scorecard performance, and audit findings trending
- Drive supplier quality, including supplier approval, supplier corrective actions, incoming inspection requirements, and supplier scorecards
- Develop and deliver quality training for new hires and existing employees on inspection methods, procedural compliance, and quality system requirements
- Hold the organization — including peers and production leadership — accountable to procedures, work instructions, and customer requirements
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive quality experience in a precision machining, CNC manufacturing, or comparable regulated manufacturing environment
- 3+ years in a quality leadership role managing direct reports (inspectors, QEs, or QA technicians)
- Working ownership of an ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management system, including hosting or co-hosting registrar audits
- Strong proficiency with mechanical inspection methods: micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, optical comparators, and surface plate work
- Ability to read and interpret complex aerospace and defense engineering drawings
- Working proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) — able to evaluate true position, profile, runout, datum structures, and feature control frames without assistance
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold a team accountable in a fast-paced shop environment
- Strong structured problem-solving skills (5 Why, 8D, fishbone, FMEA)
- Working experience with ERP/MRP systems (Global Shop, JobBOSS, Epicor, E2, IQMS, or similar)
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication — capable of representing CAMCO directly to customers, auditors, and senior leadership
- Willingness and ability to work an approximately 50-hour work week
- U.S. Person status as defined by ITAR (required for defense work)
Preferred Qualifications
- ASQ certification: CQM/OE, CQE, CQA, or CMQ
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
- Direct experience in aerospace, defense, or military manufacturing supply chains (Raytheon, Lockheed, Northrop, Boeing, GD, DRS, L3Harris, or similar prime/Tier 1 customers)
- CMM programming and operation experience (PC-DMIS, Calypso, or Mitutoyo MCOSMOS)
- Statistical analysis and SPC experience (Minitab or equivalent)
- Supplier quality engineering experience, including supplier audits and PPAP review
- NADCAP familiarity (heat treat, NDT, plating, welding)
- Experience with First Article Inspection per AS9102
- Prior experience as a Lead Auditor (ISO 9001 or AS9100)
- Experience coordinating with international or overseas manufacturing offices
Compensation & Benefits
- $75,000 – $110,000/year, commensurate with experience, certifications, and demonstrated leadership track record
- Performance-based bonus opportunity tied to company and individual quality KPIs
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Company-paid life insurance
- Optional long-term disability and supplemental life
- Paid time off (PTO) plus paid holidays
- Steel-toe boot allowance and PPE provided
Our Culture
CAMCO runs a disciplined shop. Procedures matter, documentation matters, and the standard is the standard — for everyone, regardless of title. We expect accountability up, down, and sideways, and we give the same in return. Our leadership listens, our engineers respect our quality team, and our operators understand that quality is built into the part, not inspected into it.
We are small enough that your work is seen and large enough that your work matters. We invest in our people through certifications, training, and real career paths. We promote from within whenever we can. We don't tolerate sloppy work, but we don't punish honest mistakes — we learn from them, document them, and prevent them from happening twice.
