Quality/Lab Technician

Vectorply is a privately-owned company with headquarters in Phenix City, AL. The company employs approximately 190 employees between administration, sales, engineering, and production and produces more than 300 different styles of reinforcement fabrics for a wide variety of composites applications. Vectorply supplies the vast composites industry with materials from our 200,000 sq. ft production facility in Alabama, along with international manufacturing partners. We are currently seeking an experienced Quality/Lab Technician.

Job Description:

The Quality/Lab Technician is responsible for maintaining quality standards by reviewing incoming materials, in-process production, finished products, recording quality results, and assisting engineering efforts within the composites lab. This position is expected to assist in implementing corrective actions and conduct audits to ensure effectiveness. The goal is to improve Vectorply’s operating profit margin and to serve our customers’ needs through continuous improvement. The lab functions include fabricating and testing laminates via hand lamination, vacuum infusion, LRTM, or wet-bagging and documenting specific process characteristics. It will be the mission of this position to live and teach the Vectorply Quality Policy; “Through continuous improvement efforts, we will provide high quality, value-added, customized, and cost-effective products and services to all customers and stakeholders.”

Experience/Skills

  • 5+ years in a manufacturing operational environment or bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Oral Communication: The ability to express oneself clearly in conversations and interactions with others

o Maintains eye contact when speaking with others

o Speaks clearly and can be easily understood

  • 1+ years experience fabricating and machining glass and carbon fiber composite materials
  • Mechanically inclined and computer literate (Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel)
  • Meets or exceeds department and job expectations/qualifications.
  • Ability to:

o Lift, push, and pull up to 100+ lbs.

o Climb steps/ladders

o Stand, walk, reach, and stoop often

  • Quality Assurance/Control and Lab Qualifications:

o Analyzing information

o Product certification of conformance/analysis, (COC/COA)

o Reporting research results

o Documentation skills

o Promoting process improvement

o Implement process improvements

o Safety conscious

o Continuous improvement

o Manufacturing methods and procedures
