- Patient Evaluation and Diagnosis:Assessing patients to determine if radiation therapy is a suitable treatment option and participating in cancer diagnosis and staging.
- Treatment Planning:Designing customized radiation treatment plans based on the tumor's size, location, and type, ensuring precision and safety.
- Treatment Delivery and Monitoring:Overseeing the accurate and safe administration of radiation, tracking patient progress, and modifying treatment plans as needed.
- Managing Side Effects:Identifying and treating any side effects of the radiation therapy.
- Patient and Family Support:Educating patients and their families about the benefits, risks, and process of radiation therapy, and providing ongoing support.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration:Working closely with other specialists, such as surgeons, medical oncologists, physicists, and nurses, as part of a cancer care team.
- Radiation Safety:Ensuring that radiation doses are delivered to the target volume while keeping normal tissue exposure to a minimum.
- Clinical Research and Education:Participating in clinical trials and ongoing medical education to stay updated on advances in radiation oncology and cancer treatment.
