Radio Associate Producer

JOB OVERVIEW

GBH News is seeking a talented and resourceful Radio Associate Producer to support the production of our weekend radio programing. Our weekend programs serve as vital spaces for rich conversations, in-depth storytelling, and community connection, showcasing voices and stories from across Massachusetts while exploring topics of local and regional importance. Shows broadcast on radio, stream via YouTube and podcasts, and engage audiences through an active social media presence.

Reporting to the Senior Radio Producer, Weekend Programming, this role is ideal for a collaborative and deadline-driven individual who thrives under pressure and is passionate about creating content that informs and inspires diverse audiences. The Radio Associate Producer will work closely with Hosts to support compelling programming and a seamless production.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Production & Editorial Support
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Radio Producer, collaborate with the hosts to develop show rundowns and segment ideas.
  • Identify, research, and pitch engaging topics and guests relevant to the shows’ audiences and missions.
  • Coordinate guest bookings, including outreach, scheduling, and preparing pre-interview notes for hosts.
  • Write interview scripts and conduct background research to support show segments and interviews.
  • Edit audio segments for broadcast and podcast platforms.
  • Collaborate with GBH News digital video team to support the production of visual segments for YouTube and social media (Instagram, TikTok).
  • Production & Technical Oversight
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to ensure smooth production of live and taped show elements.
  • Support interview tapings and offer feedback for hosts and guests on any issues or adjustments that need to be made during the editing process.
  • Digital & Social Media
  • Work with the GBH News digital team to optimize interview content and other show elements for social media platforms. This may include creating and uploading engaging posts for digital audiences.
  • Contribute and partner with the Senior Radio Producer, leaderships, and the digital team to create strategies to develop and grow audiences on social platforms
  • Track audience feedback and engagement metrics to inform future programming decisions.
  • Team Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate closely with Senior Radio Producer, host and studio engineers to meet tight deadlines and deliver high-quality content.
  • Participate in team editorial meetings and regularly contribute story ideas as part of the production process.

SKILL SET

  • Familiarity with production workflows and technical operations, including audio editing. Experience with video streaming production a plus.
  • Proven ability to book guests, craft compelling narratives, and produce engaging multi-platform content.
  • Ability to identify relevant stories and guests, balancing local focus with broader appeal.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a talent for fostering collaboration among hosts, guests, and production teams.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to evolving production needs.
  • Thrives under pressure in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Quick-thinking and creative, capable of troubleshooting issues during live production.
  • Familiarity with digital media trends and audience engagement strategies, particularly on Instagram and YouTube a plus.
  • Experience working in public media or mission-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts region and its communities is a plus.
  • Proficiency with tools like Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or similar audio editing software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors' Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in radio production, broadcast journalism, or related field.

Salary Range

$46,200 - $61,000

Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and internal pay equity.
