JOB SUMMARY:

Performs duties of a Radiologic Technologist in accordance with NY State guidelines. Operates X-ray equipment and portable machine. Prepares examination room and equipment. Provides patient services. Performs clerical duties.

WORK PERFORMED:

  • Prepares rooms, equipment and materials as needed for patients.
  • Cleans and disinfects x-ray room, and equipment. Maintains department in an orderly fashion.
  • Prepares patient for procedure, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures. Always treats patients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to translate knowledge of physical, psycho-social and cognitive-perceptual changes related to age into assessments, treatment plans and treatment modalities for all patients.
  • Follows prescribed techniques in administrating general and specific X-rays. Adjusts equipment; determines proper voltage, current, and desired exposure time; arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain proper position of patient. Adjusts radiation shielding to facilitate ALARA.
  • Safeguards the patients’ privacy by protecting the patients’ modesty during examination and using care with confidential information.
  • Safeguard the patients’ well-being by using safety devices appropriately, equipment safely and following the policy and procedures of the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and the Department of Radiology, as well as the rules and regulations governing Licensed Radiologic Technologists by the State of New York.
  • Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition as needed. Promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
  • Performs clerical duties as necessary, i.e. scheduling of cases, phone contact.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for knowing and adhering to departmental rules and regulations and ability to perform work in an accurate, timely and professional manner.
  • Makes CDs for inpatients when requested.
  • Updates, edits and retrieves all pertinent information from the Radiology computer database.
  • Performs order entry into Meditech as directed by ordering physician in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Accurately indicates completion of each Meditech order on a daily basis.
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the radiology, physician practice and other hospital personnel.
  • Consistently utilizes time in an effective manner, coordinates procedures to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the shift.
  • Practices Standard Precautions. Follows regulations, policies and guidelines on the prevention of infections; does not eat or drink in patient care areas.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information; abides by HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintains a professional image and follows Hospital’s policy on uniforms; consistently wears hospital ID.
  • Demonstrates reliable, on-time attendance, which is an essential function of all jobs at Burke.
  • Completes mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor) within deadline.
  • Personally adheres to Burke C.A.R.E.S. philosophy by demonstrating compassion, accountability, respect and exceeding expectations through service excellence.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • N.Y.S. License required
  • A.R.R.T. Certification required
  • Associates Degree required
  • 1-year clinical experience in hospital setting required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Works well with patients, physicians, nursing and other members of clinical and non-clinical staff.
