1. Core Responsibilities
Perform radiographic examinations such as:
- X-Ray
- MRI (if trained and certified)
- Portable X-Ray
- Ensure proper patient positioning and immobilization for accurate imaging.
- Follow prescribed imaging protocols as advised by the Radiologist.
- Maintain radiation safety standards for patients, staff, and self.
- Verify patient identity and requisition details before procedures.
- Explain procedures to patients and obtain necessary consent (where required).
2. Patient Care & Safety
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures.
- Screen patients for contraindications (e.g., pregnancy, metal implants for MRI).
- Monitor patients during contrast studies.
- Immediately report any adverse reactions or emergencies to the Radiologist/Doctor.
- Maintain patient confidentiality as per hospital policy.
3. Equipment Handling & Maintenance
- Operate imaging equipment efficiently and safely.
- Perform daily machine checks and calibration.
- Maintain equipment log books.
- Report technical faults promptly to Biomedical/IT department.
- Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment.
4. Radiation Protection & Compliance
- Adhere to AERB / Radiation Safety norms.
- Use protective devices (lead apron, thyroid shield, etc.).
- Maintain radiation exposure records.
- Wear and monitor TLD badges regularly.
- Ensure controlled access to radiation areas.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate patient records and imaging data.
- Upload images to PACS system.
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of films/reports.
- Maintain registers for contrast usage and consumables.
- Assist Radiologist in image processing and post-processing.
6. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, and ward staff.
- Arrange portable imaging services in ICU/OT/Emergency.
- Inform doctors promptly about urgent findings (as instructed by Radiologist).
- Guide patients regarding report collection timelines.
7. Infection Control
- Follow hospital infection control protocols.
- Disinfect equipment after infectious cases.
- Use PPE as per hospital guidelines.
- Dispose biomedical waste as per BMW rules.
8. Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor stock of films, contrast media, and consumables.
- Inform HOD about low stock levels.
- Maintain proper storage of contrast agents.
9. Professional Conduct
- Maintain professional behavior with patients and staff.
- Follow hospital policies and SOPs.
- Attend departmental meetings and training programs.
- Upgrade skills through CME and training sessions.
10. Emergency Duties
- Provide imaging support during emergencies.
- Be available for on-call duties as scheduled.
- Assist during mass casualty or disaster situations.
Qualification Requirements
- Diploma / B.Sc. in Radiology or Medical Imaging Technology.
