R&D CNC Programmer /Machinist

Job Summary
HFE International is an aerospace manufacturer in Tucson Arizona that designs and develops new equipment for the defense industry, specifically for UAV’s and drones. HFE is looking for a clever, talented individual who can rapidly produce new machined parts for testing. This individual should have the ability to create 3D models, write G-code and CNC tool paths for both Mill and Lathe operations. The candidate will have full control of the machine shop to complete this work and can use the HAAS VF2, HAAS CNC Lathe, Manual Mill, drilling, grinding, and other tools within the shop. HFE is interested in growing this area of the facility to help produce parts for other partner companies and plans to purchase more machines and grow our capabilities.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Quoting Jobs.
  • Creating code to operate the vertical mill and lathe.
  • Operate the mill and lathe to produce prototypes.
  • Specify materials and tooling for each job.
  • Have a good knowledge of material finish, tolerancing, pressing and bonding of parts.
  • Produce hardware in a high-paced working environment
  • Abide by all the safety and cleanliness requirements for an aerospace shop (AS9100)
  • Understand the requirements for AS9102 first article inspections.
  • Have a good understanding of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments including bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
  • Solid understanding of blueprint reading, schematics, GD&T principles, and geometric tolerances.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years CNC programming
  • Experience operating a CNC Mill
  • Experience operating a CNC lathe

  • A background check will be performed for history of drug use. Employees will also be selected for random drug testing while on the job.
  • This position involves lifting and carrying of engine assemblies up to 20 lbs on a regular basis.
  • The employee in this position will be exposed to gasoline, oil, and other engine related hazardous materials on the job. Employee is expected to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling these substances. A roof exhauster is provided in order to maintain levels of Carbon Monoxide exposure within OSHA guidelines. The employee is responsible for turning on the exhaust system and verifying that it is operational before running an engine.
  • This position may involve standing continuously throughout the day.
  • Engine noise exposure levels are within OSHA guidelines as long as the employee wears the proper PPE while the engine is in operation.
  • The employee always has the authority to stop an experiment if they feel it is unsafe or out of the OSHA limitations for sound and CO % exposure.

Pay: $35.00 - $38.00 per hour
