Performs laboratory experiments and tests utilizing instructions and/or standard methodology; interprets results and conducts analyses in support of product and process research and development.
Chevron Products Company is accepting online applications for the position of R&D Laboratory Technician located in the Richmond, California through November 17th, 2025 at 11:59 pm (Pacific Time Zone).
Responsibilities:
Operates complex distillation and process laboratory equipment maintaining round-the-clock operations under the direction of the supervisor. Laboratory equipment includes large and small reactors and distillation columns. Operating at elevated temperatures and atmospheric and sub-atmospheric pressures.
Full participation in Operational Excellence (OE) individually, on your crew and the ESU team.
Work schedule is either 5/8 or 9/80. Rotating shifts (graveyard, days, and swing), Monday through Friday with occasional weekend overtime. (although rare, some overtime may be mandatory)
Operates process units, utility systems, and related equipment in accordance with the requests of research scientists and engineers with oversight of the supervisor or senior technician. Ensures equipment is properly inspected to detect any unsafe or improperly functioning equipment.
Provides support in sample handling activities for research and crude oil assay samples for internal and external customers and other internal labs.
Meets OE objectives and milestones.
High School Diploma
Valid Driver's License
Minimum 2+ yrs. Lab Operations experience. Specifically with distilling and fractionating liquid hydrocarbons.
Experience with process equipment and/or instrument technology
Strong mechanical aptitude
Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Excel, and Word software
Strong commitment to lab safety, Operational Excellence, and Human Organizational Performance
Associate degree, or equivalent in science, technology
Refinery Operator Training - experience/attendance in ROP/P-Tech
Some knowledge of basic control instrumentation and electrical systems
Experience in working with chemicals, heavy oil, and distillate research or related materials
Strong teamwork and communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key Chevron colleagues outside their immediate work group.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $55,500 - $98,500. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
