Job Title: Reading Intervention Teacher
The Reading Intervention Teacher is responsible for providing targeted instructional support to students in grades 3-5 who need additional assistance in reading skills. This role involves working with small groups or individual students to address gaps in literacy, improve reading comprehension, writing skills, support them in their classwork, and foster a positive attitude toward reading and learning.
The intervention teacher will collaborate primarily with classroom teachers, and other support staff to track student progress and ensure academic success as needed.
1. Individualized Instruction:
a. Design and deliver targeted, research-based interventions for students struggling with reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and writing that have been identified by the Child Find Team.
b. Use differentiated instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners and
struggling students within 6-8th grade English classes.
c. Monitor and adjust interventions based on student progress and needs.
2. Progress Monitoring and Data Analysis:
a. Regularly assess student progress using both formal and informal assessments with the classroom teachers (e.g., standardized tests, reading inventories, observational data) to direct the plans for each student.
b. Analyze data to identify students’ strengths and areas for growth and make informed
decisions about instruction.
c. Maintain accurate records of student progress and share updates with parents, teachers, and school administrators.
3. Collaborative Support:
a. Work closely with classroom teachers to identify students in need of intervention and
align instructional strategies.
b. Participate in regular team meetings to discuss student progress, review intervention
plans, and share best practices.
c. Offer guidance and support to teachers on how to address specific reading challenges
within the general education curriculum.
4. Parent Communication and Involvement:
a. Communicate with parents/guardians about their child’s progress and the intervention
strategies being used when needed.
b. Provide suggestions for home activities or reading strategies to support learning outside of school.
5. Student Engagement:
a. Foster a supportive, encouraging environment to motivate students and build their
confidence in reading and writing.
b. Implement engaging lessons that encourage reading and help students make
connections between reading skills and real-world applications.
6. Resource Development and Implementation:
a. Select, adapt, and implement a variety of instructional resources and materials that
support the specific needs of struggling readers.
b. Keep current on research, instructional practices, and materials in literacy education.
7. Professional Development:
a. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills in literacy
instruction, intervention techniques, and data analysis.
b. Stay informed about educational tools that can support literacy development.
8. Classroom Management:
a. Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and respectful classroom environment
conducive to learning.
b. Apply effective classroom management strategies to support student engagement and
academic achievement.
