Reading Tutor

Experienced Reading Tutor, part-time, flexible hours

Seeking experienced reading tutors to help emergent readers strengthen skills in phonics, fluency, and comprehension. Tutors guide students through a program designed just for them, and document progress. Tutoring is 1:1 or 2:1. Tutors do not design lesson plans or curricula.

Candidates must be caring, qualified, and committed to the success of students. Certified teachers strongly preferred, BA required or in process.

Summer hour are 9am-6pm ; tutors pick their schedule. School hours 12pm-8pm. Most tutors work between 6-20 hours a week.

For 50 years, Huntington Learning Center has helped meet students’ specific and unique learning needs. The result is real gains in learning, as well as gains in confidence and motivation. Students begin with a diagnostic academic evaluation, then Huntington develops a unique curriculum plan based on the evaluation findings and the family’s goals.

At the Lake Nona Huntington Learning Center we tutor children from age 5 through college in reading, writing, mathematics, study skills, phonics, vocabulary, science, test prep, high school entrance examinations, and SAT/PSAT and ACT preparation. We offer after-school, weekend, and summer academic hours at the tutoring center.

Pay is $15-20/hour, depending on skills and experience.

Part time opportunities afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays; summer hours also include 10-12 M-Th.

Dress is professional, business casual attire.

Security/background check will be run.

Location is 13848 Narcoossee Road, No. 106., Orlando FL, in the Publix Shopping Center.

Skills:
- Experience working in a classroom setting or providing instruction to multiple students

- Ability to engage and educate and engage students of all ages and backgrounds

- Flexibility and adaptability in adjusting teaching methods to meet individual student needs
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, other tutors, and staff

Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 tutoring in early reading skills by implementing their individualized Huntington lesson plans

- Assess and document student performance and progress with specific comments for each lesson
- Suggest adaptations to individualized lesson plan based on observations of each student's needs and learning style; provide to staff- Collaborate with other tutors and staff to ensure student success
- Create a positive and encouraging learning environment
- Use effective classroom management techniques to promote a productive learning environment
