Our client is a highly regarded, mid-sized New York City law firm with one of the top-ranked affordable housing and community development practices in the country. Known for its collaborative culture, absence of billable-hour pressure, and genuine commitment to impact work, the firm represents leading non-profit developers, housing authorities, CDFIs, syndicators, impact funds, and mission-aligned for-profit sponsors in some of the most innovative and high-volume affordable and supportive housing transactions in New York.

Due to sustained growth and a robust pipeline of 4% and 9% LIHTC, tax-exempt bond, HPD/HDC, NYS HCR, and supportive housing deals, they have exclusively retained us to identify an Affordable Housing Attorney at any experience level (from 2024 graduates through 10+ years).

This search is truly open to all levels — they will hire multiple attorneys if the right people apply.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Structure, document, and close complex affordable housing transactions involving LIHTC (4% & 9%), tax-exempt bonds, HOME, HTF, HPD/HDC subsidy layers, Section 8, Section 202/811, Resyndication, Year-15 exits, and preservation deals
  • Draft and negotiate partnership/LLC agreements, loan documents, regulatory agreements, ground leases, and real estate closing deliverables
  • Conduct due diligence, title/survey review, and zoning analysis
  • Advise non-profit boards on governance and 501(c)(3) compliance
  • Collaborate with the firm’s tax, corporate, and real estate groups on interdisciplinary matters

Ideal Candidates

  • J.D. and NY Bar admission (or immediate eligibility)
  • 0–10+ years of transactional experience in affordable housing, real estate finance, tax credits, or community development (2025 graduates with relevant clinics, internships, or demonstrated passion are encouraged to apply)
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in housing justice
  • Team-oriented, low-ego personality that thrives in a supportive, non-hierarchical environment
