We’re looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Real Estate Development Accountant to become an integral part of our growing team. This role is responsible for all accounting and financial administration associated with Foram’s development projects, operating properties, and corporate entities, including project budgeting, construction loan draws, lender reporting, JV reporting, accounts payable, invoicing, financial reporting, and cash management. Development & Project Accounting
- Oversee all aspects of real estate development accounting: project cost tracking, revenue recognition, and capitalization of development expenses
- Spearhead budget development and management for projects from pre-development through construction and stabilization
- Prepare clear, insight-driven financial reports for each development project, highlighting key metrics and budget variances
- Partner with project teams to build accurate budgets and forecasts for ongoing and upcoming developments
- Monitor hard cost, soft cost, contingency and financing budgets. Identify budget overruns and recommend corrective actions
Construction Draw Management
- Prepare and submit lender draw packages
- Track construction loan balances and funding requests
- Reconcile lender disbursements
- Monitor budget-to-actual construction costs
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, lenders and inspectors during funding processes
Property & Day-to-Day Accounting
- Manage daily accounting operations: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
- Review and recommend approval of vendor invoices for projects and properties
- Assist in the preparation and completion of joint venture partner reporting packages
- Conduct lease reviews for assigned properties to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Support rental portfolio management and build strong relationships with tenants
- Oversee all financial aspects of property management, including CAM budget monitoring, tenant billing, and year-end reconciliations
Cash Management
- Weekly cash flow forecasting
- Monitor project and corporate liquidity
- Manage banking relationships and treasury functions
- Track loan covenant compliance
Reporting & Controls
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders, translating data into meaningful insights
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and tax laws
- Continuously look for ways to streamline financial processes and improve operational efficiency
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of real estate development accounting background required
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Yardi, and/or other accounting software
- Strong command of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Proven analytical mindset with sharp critical thinking skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities with ease
- A self-starter who works well independently and takes initiative without being asked
